With all due respect to Jeff Ament, I was interesting in sharing thoughts on what some other great bassline songs were...here are some of my favorites...

1.) Peace Frog - The Doors
2.) Interstate Love Song - STP
3.) Magic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf

anyone have any other favorites???
I love to turn you on

    Almost every song by Rush.

Toss in Iron Maiden and that about wraps up the good bass songs, ever. ;)

"One of these Days" by Pink Floyd is one that comes to my mind. Of course, anything involving Les Claypool or Geddy Lee. A couple of songs from the John Wetton era of King Crimson also had some serious bass action...."Red" and "Starless."
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

I never listened to them untill this weekend when I saw them a Lollapalooza, but Kings of Leon have great bass lines in alot of their songs. I hated that song The Bucket (which was the first song I heard of theirs), so I wrote off all their work, but after seeing them this weekend I got one of their CD's and love it. I think they were my 2nd favorite band at Lolla behind PJ. But their bass lines really struck me.

note: I was standing right by the speaker on the bass player's side so mabye it was all I could hear, but I'm not complaining
