Of the many many many astoundingly great Bob Dyan songs the one which blow me away every time is The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll.Should've won a Noble Prize.

  • Just one?

I'm kind of torn between It's A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall and Positively Fourth Street.

And of course, Like A Rolling Stone.
Once upon a time, there was a lovely little sausage called Baldrick, and it lived happily ever after. The End.

    2.Blowin in The Wind
    3.Forever Young
    4.Gotta Serve Somebody
    5.I Want You

    Don't Think Twice
    Blowin' in the Wind
    Masters of War
    Highway 61 Revisited
    With God on our Side

Everyone needs to check out his first self-titled album. It is fucking amazing! You never hear about it, and seems to be largely forgotten, but it is so good! It is all his interpretations of old folk and blues songs. Its like acoustic punk, especially "Freight Train Blues" and "Gospel Plow."

A little off topic, but this made me do a little more research on the case. I had no idea this took place in 1963. For some reason, I assumed it was in the late 1800's, early 1900's. William Zantzinger is still alive and well, and was still being his racist self back in '91 when he was charged with charging rent to black families on properities he no longer owned. Theres some good articles linked to on this page:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lonesome_Death_of_Hattie_Carroll

This may be the best quote from it, and I'm sure it makes Dylan proud:

"Zantzinger has recently (as of 2005) told Howard Sounes, in Down the Highway, the Life of Bob Dylan, "It's actually had no effect upon my life", but is vitriolic in his scorn for Dylan, saying, "He's a no-account son of a bitch", claiming that the song is inaccurate. "He's just like a scum of a scum bag [sic] of the earth, I should have sued him and put him in jail". He claims that the song is a total lie, but has never attempted to prevent Dylan from performing it."

Oh, and favorite Dylan song? Thats tough. Jokerman, Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest, Forever Young, Desolation Row all are up there.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

Dylan wrote one of my fav love songs ever ever ever called Nobody 'Cept You. i know its about a relationship with God but in my own version i changed a few lines so it could also be about someone you love dearly (like in my case) i don't care too much musically for his version (i fucking love the 16HP version though) but lyrically its awesome

I can't stop listening to "Wallflower" right now

    Wallflower, wallflower
    Won't you dance with me
    I'm sad and lonely too

    Wallflower, wallflower
    Won't you dance with me
I'm falling in love with you

Just like you I'm wondering what I'm doing here
Just like you I'm wondering what's going on

    Wallflower, wallflower
    Won't you dance with me
The night will soon be gone

I have seen you standing in the smokey haze
And I know that you're gonna be mine one of these days, mine alone

    Wallflower, wallflower
    Take a chance on me
    Let me ride you home

been listen' to Dylan for many years and still lovin his songs.. :)
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

Honestly, I don't think anything is even in the same league as Desolation Row... that song is just epic.

I think people who say "Girl From The North Country" should have to specify which version, the one from 1962 or the one from 1969, they like better.

And for the person who said they love "Nobody 'Cept You," you're right, the song is great and should have been the last song on "Planet Waves" instead of Wedding Song, which is good, but the lyrics aren't quite up to par.

    Fair enough!

Actually, I never really liked the Dylan versions until I heard a cover by this woman named Susan Hamlin from Saratoga, NY.

    It's fantastic.
