I totally forgot Cesar Zuiderwijk of the Golden Earring. Almost 60 and still a great drummer!
  • STEVE GORMAN B/C "high as the fuckin moon"

I'm going to have to give it to Dave Grohl. His work on the skins is simply incredible. Not sure how good he is now since he doesn't play that much but back in the day he was the man. Any thoughts?

i dunno who the best is but charlie watts is certainly the coolest there is :)

i dunno, her sucking is like a part of the overall white stripes vibe, whereas he detracts from the songs with his lack of pocket, crappy fills, inconsistent measures, lack of creativity, and his use of tricks to hide the fact he can't play.

I guess we agree then. I think meg's drumming, while not the most skilled, fits in well with the white stripes. Brad just sucks

    Alive:
    Dave Grohl
    Mike Portnoy
Charlie Watts, he might not be like crazy good, but it fits the music so well.

But Bonham is god! Greatest rock drummer of all time, in my opinion.

excluding all the accomplished jazz drummers, i'd have to say the best drummer still kickin' is easily neil peart. actually i'd probably pick him above the jazz drummers too. danny carey takes second. jimmy chamberlin takes the bronze.

Okay so i'm not going to call him the best drummer alive, but I want to mention him. I don't know his name right off but the drummer from Mastadon is really good. I love his fills. I don't like how a lot of metal bands will ride the double bass drum, but he really slaps the skins. I like his drumming a lot.

Crappy drumming in a crappy band is no excuse for crappy drumming!
    Which came first,
the bad idea or me befallen by it?

I'm assuming that all the people who didn't mention Billy Cobham didn't because they haven't heard him right? And if that's the case please for the love of god check him out. Buy the inner mounting flame by the Mahavishnu Orchestra for some of the most creative, complex and exciting drum playing ever committed to tape (and yes that is over and above Neil Peart and Danny Carey IMO)

Dave Grohl - Loved his style in Nirvana and re-affirmed my liking for him on 'Songs for the Deaf'.

Jack Irons - In particular, for Up In My Tree and Given To Fly, also for his work with the Chili's.

Travis Barker - Although he's in shit bands (sorry Blink and whatever the name of the other band he is in fans) but that guy can drum up a storm.

Take a listen to Bulls On Parade from Live At The Grand Olympic Auditorium, and then say he's a shit drummer. On record he tends to go with the more basic stuff, but live he's pretty damn good.
