My cousin's a big fan of the band Brand New and I'm wondering if they're worth checking out. They're playing this Saturday here in Lynchburg (Lynchburg College) at 8pm. The cost is only $5 and a band called Manchester Orchestra is opening. Any recommendations? Also, my wife and I will probably attend together if we decide to go. We're 25 years old, so I don't know if we'll be a bit old for the type of crowd that would be at there show. We're not the type to get in the pit so will we be outsiders? The only people I know that listen to them are 18-21 yrs. old. I know good music when I hear it, I'm just curious to see what the consensus is here. Thanks for your responses.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

  • i would say go. they should be re-engergized with new tunes to play. they were getting tired of playing the same songs over and over and their energy level had gone down considerably.

So you'd say that they're a pretty decent band? I'm not at all familiar with their music.

    5$???? Dont even think twice.
Still getting into the new one, but the last one really stood out for me in a crowd of same old same old whiny shit.
They have good songs and of all the emo crap they really are one of teh decent bands - all IMHO obviously.
Only seen them once, as support for Incubus - they dont put on an OTT show or anything, but still worth ot.

Just found out my parents' annual Christmas party is on Saturday so I'm not gonna be able to go anyway. Wish I could. I'm starting to hear good things.

when was this? cos their first album kinda is. it's pretty crappy emo nonsense. im not keen on it either. their new album sounds nothing like that... it's actually kinda hard to believe it's the same band.

Ok but keep in mind I will be comparing it to the new Kings of Leon

evolving out of emo... so that means they have evolved into a normal regular rock band that doesn't piss me off but just sounds a lot like other rock bands? It takes some serious evolution to get that shitty band sounding anything at all like real rock n roll should sound like

This really isn't hard music to write. Nor is it that good..

I don't hate it.. like the other albums.. but it really is fairly generic and boring sounding... so basically i called it.. in my other post lol

Music shouldn't be hard to write. It should just be good. The complexity of music isn't what makes me enjoy it. It's the feeling and art of the song. I suppose it's all your opinion... I certainly found it good.

I agree it is about the feeling of a song.. but I still get that annoying whiny vibe from them.. its just not quite as strong as their other albums.. but its there.. to each their own I guess.

I did just listen to Relationship of Command before that.. that could have something to do with it..

but thats like comparing it to a piece of shit.....most things are going to be better than that!

Brand New are a really great band. I don't know why they get lumped with the emo tag....it's not befitting of them at all.

Sadly i missed their show in Cardiff 2 weeks ago as I had flu but my friends said it was excellent

bharq is too cool for the rest of us

i saw them last night... they were fucking incredible live. the only band i've heard of that formed in the last 10 years and plays a 2 hour set (instead of the pussy 1 hour 15 minute set that even oasis pulled on their tour). these guys are the real deal. they can play. i havent seen that kind of onstage energy since pearl jam's heyday in 95. the guy's voice is excellent, the rockers rocked harder than anything i've heard recently, and the acoustic numbers were performed well to boot. it was a fantastic show. i was totally psyched for the hold steady st patty's day, but they're goign to have a lot of work to do to top last night's show.

they kicked off with highlights from their first album, then played deja entendu in its entirety from start to finish, took a break and played about half the new album. it was phenomenal.
