Agreed. One of my favorite songs by any band. It is absolutely epic.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.
  • it is my belief that Zombie Eaters is better.

However, since they come in sequence, it is also my belief that it's the most badass 1-2 punch ever commited to record.

Although the combo of Jane's Addiction's "Three Days" and "Then She Did" comes close.

The Real Thing is an album, Epic is the song

One of the all time great albums by a band that was way ahead of its time

No, The Real Thing is also a song on that album. And it kicks serious ass.

I actually like The Real Thing just as much as Angel Dust and both of them more than King For A Day, but that's just me.

As a song, I love The Real Thing.

Also as an album, I think it sits along side Angel Dust quite well. I adore both those albums.

It's easy for me to say though because I grew up with them. Maybe that's why I love them so much.

I saw them in 1992 ( I think) at Brixton Academy. They filmed the video for Easy during the concert I was at the front and am in the video twice (my small claim to fame)

During the show Mike Patton drank is own piss from his shoe to toast the drummer happy birthday!!!! Was disgusting! Gotta say Patton was great, but he got too wierd and ruined the band in the end.

That's an interesting story. Didn't PJ film 'Even Flow' in Brixton?

    But yeah, FNM are great!

    Correct
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"

my girlfriend made out with Mike Patton at a Mr. Bungle show.

not sure how i feel about this but alot of people seem to think that's awesome.

    are you kidding?

Listen to Album of the Year (their last one)

It's fucking great, and WAAAAYYYY less weird than anything he did in his early FNM days.

I think it's awesome. I must admit being a tad jealous.
I personally feel that though I truly love the Real Thing as an album and it truly is a great song, I think it is the weakest of the Patton FNM albums, atleast from the standpoint of Patton's contribution. Compared to what came afterward and even on the first Bungle album, I don't think his vocals are as great, but still so much better than anything Chuck ever did and still a classic album.
  • The Real Thing is definately my favourite album (for many reasons), and one of my ALL TIME favourite songs...incredible song!

I mostly listen to the Live at Brixton CD....just love that collection of songs.

one of my mates who loves this band borrowed me the following:
    introduce yourself
    the real thing
    angel dust
king for a day, fool for a lifetime

i'm currently uploading the albums onto my i-tunes library

was this not the live album & vhs release called 'You Fat Bastards: Live in Brixton'? maybe not, I used to have a copy and there was no version of Easy as I recall. Was great though, there was another release called 'Video Croissant', still have the box for it but the cassette went for an evening stroll and never returned.

The Real Thing & Angel Dust I used to love, will have to dig'em out sometime.

saw them in support of Guns n Roses, wembley 93, also Soundgarden played, you'd think it'd of been special but they didnt sound too good.

The 'You Fat Bastard' video was from a previous tour. The footage from the concert I went to was used in the Video for Easy when it was released as a single. It still plays on MTV etc every now and then.

On a separate note, I saw Screaming Trees (cant remember who they were supporting) at about the same time. As usual, the crowd started chanting "YOU FAT BASTARD!". The lead singer thought we were being rude about his rather rotund guitarist and stopped them playing mid song, had a go at the audience for being rude and started playing the theme to Postman Pat. Was so funny.

Does anyone know the origins of the Brixton Academy 'You Fat Bastard' chant. Do they still do it at shows?

I`m really mad about patton, I think he`s amazing one of the best singer i`ve ever listened to.....
Faith no more was the band I most like , although i like mr bungle too.
In my opinion "King for a day" and "just a man" are both great songs and live they are unbelievable.
I can`t avoid to mention angel dust, that album was really creative for that time.

ok, but you were talking about "The real thing" ;) So my favorites songs of that album are underwater love and edge of the world....

great song, great album, great band! FNM is probably my 2nd fav behind PJ. though Ive listened to the real thing & angeldust more than any PJ cd's.

Patton did this porn-jazz album awhile back with a female singer & a rap producer under the name Lovage. it's pretty damn good, very sexy & jazzy. he also did aproject called Peep Tom, similar to Lovage.
not sure why he keeps doing all these side projects.
as far as Mr Bungle, I'm a not fan.

edit: forgot NOT in last sentence

  • i thought this might have been about the pj/cypress hill collabo from the "judgement night" soundtrack, also called the real thing (pretty good in its own right). . .but faith no more, yeah, they're pretty good, i liked them

AGREED! Zombie Eaters is magnificent, and as a 1-2 punch...there's not much that can stand up to these two!

Loved it, but maybe it set a disturbing trend. I mean these nu-metal asses with the heavy riffs and white-boy rapping.

Wow, that`s could have been my dream... fnm and soundgarden playing in the same show and being in London haha.
The brixton show... I remember when I bought it. I have it in Vhs.
Did u see Faith no more in Pheonix? I have this show and it`s amazing!
I only could see fnm here in Argentina 1995 when they were performing songs from the album king for a day with other bands like clawfinger, megadeth, ozzy...But obviously i only went to that show to see Mr Patton.
