Now that everyone uses that line "Know how I know you're gay, because you listen to Coldplay"......do you people think Coldplay is "gay".

i have never heard anyone say that.

i don't have any songs by Coldplay but i don't dislike them.

who would say something like that... that just sounds dumb.
  • The line is from the movie 40 Year Old Virgin.....it was a pretty funny running gag type deal. I have only heard the song Clocks by Coldplay and I think it'as a pretty cool song. haven't heard anything from them besides that dumb ass song Yellow....which I despise.

Their music is pretty wussy, but I do like Clocks.

Yeah, but they named their kid Apple for god's sake. That's pretty gay.

Coldplay are the definition of "middle of the road", a bit like the Chili Peppers these days. People are better off listening to bands like Coldplay than other shite like My Chemical Romance - i dont know how listening to them would make you gay, thats pretty sad
"...though my problems are meaningless....that don't make them go away...."
  • I love Coldplay. Fucking call me gay, whatever. It's a label, just like your name, it doesn't even matter, haha.

    I dont think they're gay.... i just think they're shit. :)

Although i did laugh my ass off (and still do) when i heard that in the 40 YOV movie.
  • I think A Rush of Blood to the Head is a fantastic record from top to bottom. However X and Y was a big letdown imo.

Basically I will know by there next album if I consider them "gay" or not.

Not that theres anything wrong with that.

Although viewed as lackluster by old school RHCP fans, although I dunno when introducing melody and harmony to their music weakened a band, BTW and SA completely shred anything Coldplay has ever thought about puting out.

    Martin owns Kiedis lyrically.

I've seen them 3 times... the first two times were pretty damn good, I must say... The last time was HORRIBLE! It was the exact same setlist that they played a few months earlier at Alpine Valley(this was indoors in milwaukee at the bradley center).
I remember one time during a song the singer says "Great photo op coming up"
Then he ran to the front of the stage, center, and raised both his arms to the sky in a V, then kneeled down...
that was very gay... but I still like some of their music!

ooooooooooooooooooh. John Frusciante is a musical genius, which nobody in Coldplay is, and while Keidis is pretty crap lyrically, alotta his crap lyrics go with the songs.

And Martin aint no lyrical gangsta by any stretch of the imagination. He coulda made that Blender list.

Yeah my main gripe with Coldplay is that they actively try to be U2. Being U2 works for U2. Chris Martin does not have a 1/10th the natural stage charisma that Bono does. When he's running, jumping and crawling around the stage it just feels way too contrived. It's like watching The Tonight Show.

I'm not saying anything about the music, my point is that the lyrics are painfully embarassing. I'm not taking anything away from the rest of the band, but I'm sure I'd like RHCP a lot more with a better frontman.

They are a band, where I try to focus on the music, instead of lyrics, but Frusciante backup vocals make it worth the "suffering".

wow what a fucking tool. this further cements coldplay's place in my doghouse of music.

Coldplay are safe. Sometimes I wish they would push their creative envelope a little more, and sometimes I like the old ways of AROBTTH and Parachutes. Musically I think X&Y was the bands best effort...musically. Lyrically, it was a turd. That could have been a really special album but the lyrics dragged it down too much.

Put the b-sides from X&Y on the album and you've got an amazing album.

    Wussy........yes. Gay.......no

The only really gay music is like Culture Club, Morrissey, George Michael, etc.

how about Coldplay is actually a fucking great band...quality records

'gay'...'wussy'...please, we're not discussing pop artists here. Coldplay is really a Radiohead-U2 inspired band that people just don't give a chance
I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

Word that. No matter how many times I hear "the Scientist", I love it more than the time before.

What? Gay artists exist but you can't have "gay music". I've never heard the term "straight music" being applied to Pearl Jam (for example).

I recently asked the board what they thought of coldplay and didn't get much in the way of positive responses, really liked the song beach chair from the last jay z album that martin was on and picked up arobtth and the album is great with the title track being my fave. x&y just didn't really change that much from the previous outing and sounds too similiar to stand out to me.
