When I think about it, there are only a handful of bands and songs I like with women singers, I could probably list the only ones right here.

Fleetwood Mac
Mazzy Star
Jefferson Airplane
Divinyls
Blondie

Thats pretty much all I can think of

I don't usually like female vocalists either but I do have a few of Carrie Akre's cds. I think the Rockfords would be past tense, right? They were just a side project with one cd.

I know tons of music, including many not well known bands, those bands are not big and it would be silly to argue that they are.

    Uh oh.

Going forward, no exclamation point necessary for Skunk Anansie. I was just excited to mention them.

By the way, are you serious or just trying to ruffle feathers? Janis Joplin, Patti Smith, Deborah Harry, Grace Slick, Joan Jett, etc.

no actually. my criteria is that the music is good, not that it is sung by a certain gender.

and lets face it one of the biggest girls in music is liam gallagher, whiny little prat bitch that he is, and he's not even female. :D:p

I have heard of those but women rockers are just nowhere near as talented or important. I guess womens vocals just dont really do it for me and apparently it seems this way for alot of people.

    *cough* sexist *cough* :D;)

Women in American rock music (and English) get pidgeonholed and stuffed into the pop genre. Woman pop singer - almost expected. But a woman fronting a rock band is still a bit... I don't want to say unapproved of, but it's less likely to happen. I don't know why it turned out that way, but it did.

On the other hand, I listen to a lot of Japanese music and a HUGE percentage of them have women in them, most of which have women singing (more than half of the bands I listen to I'd say).

    It's a really strange phenomenon.

Hyping Afrirampo again, they're one of the most bad-ass fearless groups I've ever heard. And incredible live. Listen to some of those Jap bands and your opinion will change.
