My rarest is probably an original issue of Big Black's Atomizer on Blast First records. It's not super rare but I don't have a huge collection of vinyl records and this one only had small release. Never been released on CD.

I have around 100 Blue Note LP's originally pressed in the 60's

    My favorites are:

    John Coltrane - Blue Trane
    Lee Morgan - The Sidewinder
Eric Dolphy - Out To Lunch
Art Blakey W/Jazz Messengers - Night In Tunisia

    As for rocknroll..

I never did seek out the colored vinyl cuz I just wanted to listen

My rarest is probably The Rolling Stones Now! original release. however, it is probably worthless as it was one of the first records I ever bought and I did not take care of my records at that age :p (still plays but it's scratchy)

I also have the Original Master Recording of Little Feat's Waiting For Columbus LP. At the time I bought it circa 1979/1980 it cost $24.99. Regular LP's at the time were priced at about $5.00 or so.

I do have the entire PJ LP catalog, about 5 fan club singles, and I am searching for a deal for Into The Wild LP
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

I pretty much only buy vinyl to play it, and I'm not very up to date on what is rare or worth money. Stuff that was hard to get was:

    -mellon collie vinyl
    -Banaroya vinyl
    -Downward Spiral and Fragile vinyls
-My girlfriend bought me the Led Zep BBC sessions box set for xmas which is pretty special, not particularly rare though.
-Loads of subpop 7", including Smashing Pumpkins, Change has come by screaming trees, various other bits and pieces.

benaroya and mellon collie are the two most *valuable* i have...

but rare is another issue. working in a record shop, the rarest records we ever get in are probably dreadful self-pressed folk albums, which are un-sellable.

i have the fragile and downward spiral too, tho i think they're probably worth no more than double their original RRP. and i have the pumpkin's subpop 7" on pink vinyl which i really love. that probably sells for the same as those NIN LPs. i also have change has come on subpop, but the european 12".... everything except the led zep!

i've just really started collecting recently...

eddie vedder - into the wild
the walkmen - everyone who pretended to like me is gone in two single LPs one is clear.
interpol - turn on the bright lights first pressing

do people actually pay more for a first pressing of that than any other pressing? the only difference would be the matrix number.

its not at all rare... not even a limited pressing (the 'dirty' boxset from 5 years ago is still in print) but it is valuable.... most of the rare records listed here wouldn't sell for £30.

Who the fuck knows !! I didn't notice until soume time later, not having a turntable by that time. I discovered the damage on my birthday one year, and the bitch tried to blame my sister, set her up by leaving my sister's favourite albums alone.
    She was fucked up.

Received the Ghosts I-IV Ultra Deluxe Limited Edition yesterday. Mine was # 0909 of 2500. This set is beautiful. There are 2 boxes, one for the LPs and another for everything else (CDs, Blu Ray, and Multitrack DVD; 2 art prints; booklet signed by Trent) both boxes have a small metal plate on the back with the set number. Both also have a metal plate on the front with the NIИ logo.

The sleeves for the LPs are unlike any I've ever seen. The insides of the sleeves are lined with some sort of fabric instead of the usual paper or plastic sleeves.

    i only have 2 records!

    Radiohead - In Rainbows

    and

Pearl Jam - No Code. whats funny about this record is that i actually wanted to tear it apart and frame each panel so that the triangle picture is visible. guess i am glad i didn't=p (it's not sealed btw)

it depends on the record. but in my experience first pressings are always the more sought after copies. i know matador (which TOTBL came out on) reissued the album on 180 gram vinyl simply because people were paying outrageous amounts for the original (which i thought was an awesome thing to do *cough* pearl jam reissues *cough*). they did the same for their second album Antics as well.

Pre-Release of London Calling with the white label, only 250 were pressed.

Supposedly the record company originally didn't think the Clash would sell a double album so they sent this out to the music industry VIPs a month ahead of the actual release date and it was well received.
Some say that there are a few single vinyl edited versions of London Calling also but they were supposed to have been destroyed and never distributed.

I have just put a bid in for this on ebay:

    http://www.dementlieu.com/users/obik/bigblack/discog/oheadache.html

Don't look at the additional picture links on there if you're squeamish or at work. It's a horribly graphic photo that required the record to have a "bodybag" cover in order to get released. There's only 1000 of the pressing I'm bidding for. I really hope I get it. One of my favourite bands and it would be my first proper rarity.

    Rammstein - Mutter

It's not well documented that you could get this in vinyl. Limited press in Germany only.

Nearly bought that myself on ebay the other day. Decided to save my money and get it another time though. Amazing album.

I've got a fair stack, most are country affairs that I know or care little about, but:

Marty Robbins - Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Sings
Neil Young - After the Goldrush
    Beatles - Revolver
    Steeley Dan - Pretzel Logic

.....and I've a few Beatles singles from the early to mid 60's, though they've no sleeve and are very scratched. Plenty others I've no idea of, been meaning to make a list and google 'em.

  • Thanks to my parents I have some old first pressings, lot of Beatles (Odeon), Led Zep II + III and some other 70s stuff...

The rarest/most valuable I bought myself: probably Nirvana, Love Buzz 7" (pretty low number), Bleach (coloured vinyl), Blew EP, Sliver 12" (Blue Vinyl), Nirvana/Jesus Lizard Split-7", In Utero (Clear vinyl), Unplugged in NY (white vinyl), one of those I think.

Pearl Jam: Not sure, I have a Daughter-7" on red vinyl, no idea how rare that is.

i know it depends on the record - just seemed strange that it would matter for a modern record - its usually 70s or older, and normally some kind of textured sleeve, insert, or different coloured label to go with it, that makes a first pressing valuable.

i would guess people payed a lot for totbl only because it was out of print for a short time, and that now it wouldn't make much difference. matador LPs tend to stay in print... tho i'm kicking myself for not getting a copy of the last yo la tengo album.

i think interpol's first record - a 12" EP - was released by a glasgow label and goes for a lot.

as for pj LPs, its strange... they got reissued around 2002 when i started buying vinyl, and i hadn't realised they were so valuable again... esp vitalogy... i knew binaural and lo2l were already going for $60 by 2003. ten was pretty much always in print.

The record I'd near kill to possess would be Lee 'Scratch' Perry's Disco Devil 12" original pressing. Not gonna happen though.

yeah, El Paso too(d'ye get girls called Feleena in Mexico?). My favourite song of his is Don't Worry, which I've read is the first time a fuzztone guitar sound appeared, his vocals astonish!

my dad has a few that we've looked up information for, but can't find much

One is an early pressing of the Rolling Stones self-titled album imported from the UK (complete with glossy photo of the band, signed by Keith Richards (signed Keith Richard)).

There's also an early imported Hendrix, an early Cream album and a bootleg album of Neil Young and the Squires

I still have all my old vinyl, nothing too rare, but the most interesting is probably the first three Metallica records on the original European label, Music For Nations. They were all re-released in 1987 when they signed to their first major, Vertigo.
And I have most of their early singles/ep's on vinyl.

I also have a nice etched 12" of Jesus Christ Pose by Soundgarden
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....

Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.
