Now that I have already bought it.:D

What exactly do they mean by " high-grade audiophile vinyl.. " ?

180 gram virgin vinyl mastered directly from the master analogue tapes?

200 gram virgin vinyl mastered directly from the master analogue tapes?

And how does this vinyl differ from the mass-market release of this album, on January 29th?

    Anyone?

All true, but none of them answer my question.
    Hey hey it's okay...

  • If thats an ITW vinyl (at work so can't click)....that can't surprise you.
ALWAYS happens. It sucks but as long as there is a demand it will always happen.

It means Eddie is one of those rare people who still values analogue recording, for one thing. wow! go tube recording!

And heavy vinyl holds better clarity in its grooves than typicaly lighter weight "commercial" vinyl.

Thats about as techinical as i go.
I'm mostly oohing and awing that this was all recorded on tape!

    :D

If I opened it now would you not understand?

I'd bet it's 180 gram....it comes with the bonus 7" and a "28-page full color booklet with lyrics and exclusive liner notes by Director Sean Penn"
Although, I don't know if the booklet is only for the 10club edition or if retail gets it too.

I'm surprised at the one per customer rule. I know it's a limited edition, but didn't think this would be that limited.

First off, vinyl records do not degrade as you think they do. They will last much longer than any CD will. In addition, CDs get lost, scratched, and broken all the time leading to more waste. I'm certain more landfill space will be used for Into the Wild CDs than for the vinyls.

Plenty of fans like myself will listen to their records. Yes, some will keep it sealed as a collector's item, but those may eventually get into the hands of others who will play it.

I believe the band's main reason for continuing to support the vinyl format is it's superior sound. Anytime music is digitized parts are lost, but the vinyl recordings are analog so you can hear everything. When you listen to a CD you may not be able to hear everything that was on the recording, and even more is lost in the mp3 format.

Thanks. That makes sense regarding audio quality and I get how putting the needle to the record is more fun than loading a disk but there are a lot of PJ fans, young and old, that do not own a record player and therefore the holiday record will never be heard by those people. So if you aren't into collecting vinyl, it becomes a likely object to pitch.

I know CD's are made from plastic (petro based) but I am willing to wager there are a lot more people that own CD players than turntables and that would make them more widely usuable.

I don't want to sound off on the band and try to offend this large audience of diehard PJers and I didn't join the club to get the record, I merely question the choice of vinyl considering the popularity CD's.
