Saw them at the Warfield in San Francisco on 10/18. Amazing show. They were really really good. The songs sounded even better live. I haven't bought Only By the Night yet, I wanted to hear the songs live before I bought it. I hear it's a grower. They opened with Sex On Fire. The crowd was really into Use Somebody, Molly's Chambers, Knocked Up, and Slow Night, So Long. They played Fans, but no Ragoo or True Love Way, which I wanted to hear. The crowd was really good as well. Everyone were die hards. If anyone was at the show, tell me your thoughts. I wanted to hear what Caleb was saying to the crowd during the show but couldn't hear him over the crowd.

  • I was there, fantastic show, Knocked Up was amazing. I was really impressed with We Are Scientists to

I don't think that I've ever heard True Love Way live...love that song, too.

I caught their LA and San Diego shows; a girlfriend went to the Warfield shows (said the place was nice and small) and loved it.

The Stills and We Are Scientists are pretty good opening choices. Nice to hear The Stills kind of "return to form".

  • True Love Way is definitely one of my favourite KOL songs.
  • Awesome show. No better place to see a show than the warfield either. Not one bad seat and lots of accessible bars. The band killed. I actually watched Stone play the Regency then cabbed to Warfield for end of We Are Scientists and all of KOL. Great night of music.

Anyone who was at the Warfield in SF on 10/18 hear what Caleb was saying to the crowd during the show? I couldn't hear him because the crowd was so loud. The energy that night was palpable. Really good show.

Also, I didn't catch much of the Stills or We Are Scientists, but liked what I heard. What albums from those bands are the best?

I had no idea Stone was at the Regency on 10/18. Nice night of music. Wonder if he saw KOL when he was in SF. I'm sure Eddie will be at their show in Seattle.

Yup, Eddie joined KOL in Seattle tonight on Slow night, so long!
    Brought the house down! :)
  • Sounds like a great show! I was at Webster Hall earlier in the tour, which was a very good show (I wouldn't say great), but it felt the band was getting ready to shoot into the stratosphere when they performed "Use Somebody!"

Also glad to hear The Stills had a good opening set...I really like them a lot.

To "bdgavin" - They're up to 3 albums and an EP...if you want a preview, I think you might be able to listen to all the records in their entirety on Rhapsody (as opposed to 30-second clips on iTunes). Good stuff on all.

Wish I was at that show....
    Conversations getting dull
There's a constant ringing in my ears
Sense of humor's void and numb
    And I'm bored to tears.......

The new album really sounds good....and different from "Without Feathers". I'm glad they're running with KOL this tour.

I was at the San Diego show and had a blast--what a perfect venue for them...except for the idiots who still think moshing is cool.

it was worth the price of the ticket to hear Closer live and to be that close:-)

Going to the Houston show next week and I can't wait. I've seen them twice this year, both opening for PJ, and I can't get enough. Love the new album!! It's gonna be an awsome show.

    SOLAT319,

Yeah, I was there on Saturday night. I didn't have a clue Stone would be in
San Francisco. I guess I should have checked the Pit to see what other Jammers were going to see KOL.

As much as KOL deserves great success in the USA, I am happy to see them in small venues like the Warfield. If they blow up in the USA, they probably won't be playing at venues like that. I hate going to places like Shoreline or HP Pavilion, or other giant venues where you can barely see the stage. I'm so stoked I was able to see them at the Warfield. I could have thrown my drink to Caleb from where I was. My buddy in LA saw them at the Nokia last year.... not even close to as intimate as venues like the Warfield. I was in the back of the floor pit, by the stairs. It was still awsome. I had never been as close to the stage as I was for this show. We would have gotten closer had we known that there was a bar inside the theater itself. I hadn't been there since I was 15.

Another reason I'm kind of glad KOL isn't huge in the USA is that most of the people I meet don't know their music. It makes me feel like their MY band. Selfish, but honest. Still, they do deserve to be one of the biggest bands in the US. It goes to show that most music listeners in the US prefer dumbed down, mainstream, and poppy music. I hope KOL never caters to that unhealthy appetite.
  • I originally had four tickets for KOL last night.
Because our income has dropped to almost nothing- I decided to sell them- and both of the buyers were from Canada.
    I thought that was interesting.
Glad it was a good show- I almost decided to hang out in the alley and wait for Ed to come out and have a smoke- but nahh.
    ;)

I'm going to this one as well! Very encouraging to see the good reviews so far!!
  • from the PI review
"That was better than Radiohead," proclaimed one fan as he left the Paramount Theatre. "But who was that guy that wandered onstage at the end? He looked like a bum."

apparently that fan isn't from Seattle- we wear flip-flops to the Symphony & I sure as hell am not complaining about the way Eddie dresses.

I did not see My Morning Jacket at the Greek. I've yet to get into them. I'll buy a couple of their albums sooner or later. I love a couple of their songs but haven't fully embraced them yet.

I've never been to the Greek. I'm boycotting big venues. The last 4 concerts I've been to were Warfield (KOL), Zellerbach in Berkeley (Vedder), the Fillmore (the Pogues), and Bill Graham (Pearl Jam). Bill Graham is bigger than the others, but it was General Admission, and not nearly as bad as some arena or crap amphitheater.

Saw them in Portland last night. Pretty boring show really. I really love KOL on CD and have enjoyed their shows in the past.

They really have Zero stage presence compared to most other bands out there. The new stuff also sounds pretty lifeless compared to the older stuff.

Also you have 4 albums, play longer than an hour and 20 minutes!

I'm surprised at this--in San Diego I thought they had better stage presence than I'd seen, well, ever from them! I'm sorry you didn't have a blast...

They just didn't seem into it. They have been very hit and miss for me over the years.

Glad other people are having a good time. Not very many people were really rocking out to the new stuff either.

fair enough...new songs can definitely be awkward. how was Caleb's voice? he seems to have been complaining that it's been shot over the past few shows...maybe that has something to do with it. if not, then maybe next time :-)

His voice was a little off for the first half of the show. Sex on Fire and My Party were the 1st two songs and they sounded a little muffled. He also had problems hitting the high screams in Charmer.

hell, I can't even sing along to that one, let alone sing a whole show :-) I'm sitting here watching YouTube vids of KOL...I don't know how he sings like that at all!

  • I've got tickets to the DC show in November and cannot wait. Seen them four times opening for PJ this year and am stoked to see them headline a show. Small venue too!

Any of you going to be there? Any recommendations on a good place to stay in the DC area?

Seeing the Pumpkins the next night in the same venue... what a double header !!!!
