    pablo honey???

Bleach? Bleach was poorly produced garage rock that no one cared for UNTIL Nevermind. Pablo Honey had "creep". Thats enough right there.

you weren't even born when bleach came out....for those of us that were alive at the time and listening to music thought it was great

Bleach was a noisey, ill fitting, hotch potch of a record, if they hadn't made Nevermind, only about 137 people would've even heard it. It's terrible.
Pablo Honey and The Bends are both good records....Creep
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....

but that is it's charm....although nevermind is one of my favorite albums, bleach has the garage punk vibe that i love....sometimes you don't need great clean production to make a great record :)

I wasn't born when The Who came out either, but I think they are amazing. What does that matter. Its true, most people certainly listened to bleach after they heard nevermind.

Edit: Bleach was released in 89, I was born in 88. And how would you know when I was born anyway?

first you said no one cared and now it's most...which is it expert?
  • Most of the ones I thought of have already been mentioned, but I'll say 'em again anyway.

    Weezer:
    Blue Album
    Pinkerton

    Oasis:
    Definitely Maybe
    What's the Story (Morning Glory)

    The Doors:
    The Doors
    Strange Days

    Rage Against The Machine:
    Rage Against The Machine
    Evil Empire

And I think Bleach is a shit album too.

there's some good stuff on bleach, about a girl, school, love buzz, negative creep, but to put it up there with some of these other debuts being mentioned like ten, led zep I etc is crazy talk imo. each to their own though, music is completely subjective remember.

adding to the pablo/bleach debate, pablo honey anyday, but not because of creep, anyone can guitar bitches!! but again, solid debut, but classic? after where their career went after that, the best was obviously still to come from radiohead.

I never said anything differently. No one cared about bleach until nevermind came out. Thats what I said the first time and thats what I said the second time.

it's not the production. the songs on bleach are just generally weak. kurt hadn't honed his craft.

    my votes:

    1. oasis- definitely maybe, morning glory
no band in the history of music has had a more impressive 1-2 punch. say what you will about the rest of their catalogue/career, these are two classic albums. period. and there isn't a bad track between the two. not even a mediocre track. every song is dynamite.

    2. black crowes- shake your moneymaker, southern harmony
    just great, classic, roots rock.

    3. nas- illmatic, it was written
i know people get down on it was written, but in 2 albums, nas touched on just about every aspect of hip hop that had come before and would come after.

    4. notorious big- ready to die, life after death
both amazing. the fact that he managed to lay down a double album that has p diddy on a few tracks and still not have the whole thing suck is a testament to his skill.

    5. hold steady- almost killed me, separation sunday
great storytelling, great solos, great albums. like the black crowes... nothing fancy, just good music.

    6. the verve- storm in heaven, northern soul
from an amazing tripped out shoegazer album to one of the most beautiful and melancholy albums ever. they up the ante by making their third just as impressive, something most of the rest in this list couldn't manage.

    close calls:
nin- some of the downward spiral drags for me. and pretty hate machine needs to be remastered in the worst way.
tragically hip- quality songs, but not as mind-blowingly good as some of the others on here. their third album found them really hitting their stride. all these albums need remastering too. bad.
    and like that... he's gone.
  • Incubus:
    SCIENCE
    Make Yourself

    Coldplay:
    Parachutes
A Rush of Blood to the Head

    Eels:
    Beautiful Freak
    Electro-Shock Blues
If I could, think I would give in.
  • Big Star - #1 Record and Radio City

P.S. Does anybody listen to Brand New around here? All three of their records are amazing! And they keep getting better and better with each new release!
