call and a half right there, perfect.
Also agree with the Arcade Fire and others listed.
I'm gonna add Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Fever to Tell and Show Your Bones.
Placebo, S/t and Without you I'm Nothing.
QOTSA, S/t and Rated R.
TV on the Radio and System of a Down both deserve mention also.
Shake Your Moneymaker & The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion
That's pretty hard to top if you ask me.
How could I forget those two!
Ryan Adams' Heartbreaker and Gold is a good choice too!
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."
Van Morrison - Astral Weeks, Moondance
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada, Lift Yr Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven
Big Black - Atomizer, Songs About Fucking
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"

Pablo Honey... I love that album even though most don't seem to care for it compared to other Radiohead albums.
Audioslave could have been up there because their self-titled was great, but I thought Out Of Exile was the dullest album any of them have been a part of (Cornell and RATM guys included).
I really loved both Velvet Revolver albums even though most would probably gawk at this. And in this case "first two" = "last two". Too bad they all hated Weiland and vice-versa.
I'll go one better. What about the best first 3 albums? IMHO...Vitalogy is the best they got.
The first three Zeppelin albums will still work, then. It's actually a pretty good analogy since Vitalogy and Zep III both represented new directions for the respective bands that surprised some fans.

agreed ..but i thought the 1st two would be a better meazuring stick good anology nontheless .
Primus. Definately Primus. I know their music is MILES away from Pearl Jam, but they have a very similar catalogue.
Ten was considered PJ's best and most anthem like album. Frizzle Fry was definately similar. That album had a very different vibe to it compared to their other albums, just like Ten. Their second album "Sailing The Seas of Cheese" reminds me of VS because it is totally different from their first album, yet still fucking owns in its own way. Just like VS
Every single primus album is completely different from eachother, just like every PJ album. I'd consider the "Brown" album like binaural and riot act, and "Tales From The Punchbowl" is like "No Code."
Their music is no where near similar, but they had a similar direction they went with like PJ.
