Gov't Mule, featuring the incredible, Warren Haynes, is currently my favourite live band.
Here's my reasons:
Every show has a unique setlist
All 4 members of the band offer up the goods
They play 2 sets and never play only 2hours
Their songs are well written, great lyrics with lots of room for open interpretation on the road
Gov't Mule is fan friendly
They do justice to the cover songs they play(indifference/nothingman etc)
Warren Haynes, without a doubt, is one of the most talented musicians on the planet.
a few that come to mind... out of those that i have seen, in no particular order:
pearl jam (goes without saying)
ben harper (amazing performer and the innocent criminals are outstanding)
sigur ros (quite different from your typical rock show but will blow your mind)
white stripes (jack white is the man)
radiohead (very impressive)
NIN (perfection)
neil young (he's a legend)
pj harvey (this girl can sing... very intense)
monster magnet (just a great rock show)
rage against the machine (the pit was quite scary though)
qotsa (i've seen them loads but they're a bit hit and miss i must say)
beck (is there a style of music he's not capable of?)
tool (the whole experience)
the stooges with mike watt and j mascis (nothing against iggy but you can't beat watt/mascis)
muse (i like what he does with his guitar while singing)
a couple of german bands:
rammstein (not a fan of their music but the show is impressive)
beatsteaks (very energetic show)
die ärzte (hilarious... quite possibly the funniest band on the planet)
die fantastischen vier (hip-hoppers extraordinaire)
don't know... i've got a headache and probably forgot a lot of great live bands i've seen...

Some days you wake up and sit on a park bench next to an eighty year old Russian architect, and some days you don't. I think this is my new life philosophy.
Tom Petty and teh Heartbreakers put on a great rock and roll show. One of the best I've seen.
Have you seen him this year. It seemed like his energy was cut in half since 02. Myaybe he shouldn't have followed the black crowes but the level in performance wa ridiculous. The Crowes should have closed.,
Godspeed You Black Emperor
Hamell on Trial
Ani Difranco
Radiohead
System of a Down
Mars Volta (except the guitar was waaaay too low, but still a lot of energy)
A Perfect Circle
Sigur Ros
standin above the crowd
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
eager to identify with
someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way
Ill stay away from the already mentioned bands...and include LOCAL H!!!! Such a great band and even better live! Usually play in small settings, and lots of crowd interaction. Scott (singer) almost always enters the crowd at one point or another...not to mention they rock harder than anyone around!
Cool band, if you havent already, check them out!!
Maybe if they ever came around my parts I could finally get to see them. I love their entire catalogue though, including the many bootlegs I own.

foo fighters. love the banter, the high energy throughout the whole show...only downside is they don't change their setlists enough. didn't keep me from seeing them 15 times last year.
metallica. again, great crowd interaction, very good live show.
bright eyes. depends very much on the mood he's in, but if you catch him on a good day, you're in for an amazing show. I first saw them in a super tiny club in munich in 2002, and that is still one of my fav concerts ever.

Absolutely - as soon as I read this thread title, the 1st band to come to mind (besides PJ of course) was Local H. Seen them 3-4 times now - awesome show every time out. I just wish they'd come to the East Coast more. Maybe a summer tour after "Hallelujah! I'm a Bum" is released?
Just saw the Foos for my 4th time last year - they never disappoint. It was my 8 year old son's 1st concert. He loved it...I just cringed a little every time Dave dropped an F bomb. Luckily it was only 30-40 times
