There's no way Pearl Jam won't end up in the R&R HOF. They may not be inducted their first year of eligibility, but they'll get in.

As for artists that are already eligible and haven't been inducted, I'd say "Weird Al" Yankovic is among those who have been overlooked. If Madonna and rap artists are in there, he certainly deserves the same recognition. He may not be a rock legend, but who hasn't heard any of his parodies?

Here's a site with lists of artists by the years they have become eligible:

admit what? I'm personally glad Pearl Jam isn't as huge as they once were, thats what I meant by commercial success AND integrity. They intentionally didn't make albums that the masses would like. There is nothing to admit, they don't sell albums like in the early 90's (that's a good thing) so what. Did Patti Smith have to sell 10 million albums to get in, NO. Pearl Jam has every thing an artist would need to be in that damn Hall. Maybe you just don't realize how well respected PJ is in the business. Almost every fucking legend of rock music alive today has wanted to perform with Ed, Why? Because he's one of them. I can't believe some people's thought process. I get when some people post things that we've all seen a thousand times and they are amazed because it's the first time they have seen it, I get some people not knowing every nook and cranny about the band like some of us do. But to think Pearl Jam is not a legendary elite band at this time in there career, is just asinine. They will go in, it's not even a question.

And the only reason I give a damn is, I want to see them perform at the ceremony.

I was going to post him. You would think he would be in by now and I thought Lou Reed, Peter Frampton, Tom Waits, and Iggy Pop would have been in by now as well.

You should probably take a valium or something and settle down. What you need to realize is that the majority of people (and yes, that includes some that have a vote in all of this) don't love them they way we do around here. I don't see any way that they get in there in their first year of eligibility. Think about this: Metallica (whatever you might think of them) is a far more popular, more influential, and more commercially successful band than Pearl Jam is. It took them a couple years to even get nominated. Look how long it took The Stooges to get on the ballot...

PJ deserves consideration. Hell, they'll probably get in after quite a while. But there are far more influential and successful bands that didn't get in right off the bat that it seems impossible to me that PJ will.

Well I say they will get in, and my opinion is as about as worthless as yours. The only difference is, I'm going off an educated guess. Your going off of Binaural.

I actually agreed with him. Some of you guys are just too drunk on the Kool-Aid to look at things from a non-fanatic point of view. Listen: I love PJ. The only band I might like better is The Beatles (because if you ask me, there's The Beatles, and then there's everyone else). Sure, they've been around a long time and they're really the only band from that era who is still putting out music and touring, but aside from those first 2 albums, I don't think you can call them a "huge commercial success". I mean, the fact that they're not huge mega-stars and everyone and their brother listens to them is part of what all of you like, right? The feeling that you know something most others don't. And let's face it: they've built and sustained their career on their live shows. MANY people wrote them off completely after the (I know you don't want to admit it, but it's the truth) back-to-back commercial flops of Binaural and Riot Act. Sure, they redeemed themselves in '06, and their live shows are better than ever, and even the greatest bands are allowed to have some shit albums... but I just don't know if they have enough to get in. Certainly not first-ballot slam dunks...

Not every member on this board is a "fanatic" PJ fan. I just think they will go to the the Hall of Fall for all of the reasons that the people are saying (which I don't need to repeat).

I'll add one more reason that hasn't been mentioned yet:

Pearl Jam has been involved with the HOF for so long that I think they already have an "in" with the organization. How many artists have the band and/or Ed inducted so far? There was The Doors, Neil Young, and R.E.M. Am I forgetting any?

This could give them a pretty good shot at getting in the first year the are eligible. If it isn't that year, they WILL be inducted eventually.

They will get in bc of one dominating reason...they are respected and expected by the those already in the hall. They areen as equals by Townsend, Dylan, Young, Jagger, Stipe....and so on

That is the diff btw them and say Metallica which you ref earlier.

I am??? I merely used that as an example. I'm sorry that your bubble got burst by a couple people that might dare to have a differing opinion. This place can really be like fuckin' Jonestown sometimes... :) Why can't you discuss it back and forth and maybe listen to someone like me or smokeabud who might disagree with you? I'm not trying to change your mind... I'm just trying to get you to look at it through the eyes of someone who isn't a die-hard fan.

You raise an interesting point: the oft-denied and never-admitted trump card of behind-the-scenes manipulation of ballot-makers/nominees/winners. If it was solely about the music and the influence and nothing else, The Stooges and MC5 would have been in long ago. It's a corporate venture and a money-maker above everything else.

Pearl Jam is the last straight up real rock band left today, they are the last and only band left to be considered in the same sentance as Led Zep, the Who, Jimi Hendrix, Rolling Stones, and Pink Floyd. Other than Jimi, Pearl Jam is the greatest american rock band. They are going in the HOF no questions.

As far as who should be there now, its Rush. Another no brainer.

I could go on and on with this one.

    The Stooges-
    MY GOD!!
I'm sorry but there would NOT be punk rock without this band...There would NOT be Grunge without this band.

Seattle owes it's entire creative output to The Stooges. It would be an absolute travesty if any Seattle band makes it in before Iggy and The Stooges.

It was awesome seeing Patti Smith and The Ramones get in.

But...The Stooges were a major influence on both. Every member of The Ramones has stated that it was The Stooges that made them start a band.

And yet over and over and over again they get passed over.

    Very Lame
  • I have to add to this thread that some of the people in the HOF are strange choices. Paul McCartney and George Harrison did little for me as solo artists that would have stood them above other choices, if they hadn't been ex-Beatles.

As for glaring omissions, it may not be popular here, as I haven't heard much mention of Elton John on the PJ boards, but if he is there then I think Bernie Taupin should be too.

When talking about bands, New York Dolls, Wire, The Buzzcocks and Television are worth more than a mention.
we're all going to the same place...

You at least have Uncle Neil in there. I do agree with everyone that says Rush should also be inducted.
