seriously, not enough anyone can ever say about these guys. Been into them for about 2 or 3 years now, and really, wow. at first I didn't really like "The Tennessee Fire" or some things on "At Dawn," but these two albums have some GREAT songs and are fantastic all around. and just like with Pearl Jam, I feel that when I listen to their albums in order, you can really hear these guys GROW musically. I know the lineup is different now, but this band has SO much to offer in its wide variety of music. and I don't just think it's the kick-ass rock out songs that made them stand out to me, it's the "Strangulation," "At Dawn," "They Ran," "Steam Engine," "Golden," type of songs that make Jim James and this band's genius shine and appeal to me. anyone have similar or contrasting opinions?

I secretly hope this band doesn't hit the mainstream, I don't want anything changing. and plus, I kinda like that not a whole lot of people know about them :p

They opened for PJ in June '06. I loved One Big Holiday, but i didn't really like their other stuff, until Evil Urges. That is an aweome record.

glad to see a thread about them again!!! There is absolutely no way i can get enough of this band right now, or jims voice. I agree about the slow songs, filled with soul and Jim just doing his thing. The rocking out songs are just a bonus in my mind. If the slow one hit you and its for you, there is nothing better.

I just bought this vinyl yesterday:

    http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61LgOsacbbL.jpg

It was recorded on Oct 31st at a friends Halloween party in 2004. All acoustic, 25 minutes long. GREAT!

I've seen them 7 times. Evil Urges came out this year and is EASILY one of my fav albums of all time. Probably cracked the top 30 even.

This band is absolutely incredible and I am so glad that I have found something that makes me feel so great when I listen.

LONG LIVE MMJ! I hope they just keep growing...

"Acoustic Citsuoca," nice, I have it on vinyl too. just a little correction though about when it was actually recorded. The packaging claims it was recorded at the Startime Pavilion in Braintree, Massachusetts on October 1, 2003, a show which did not, in fact, occur. The actual recording dates were October 17, 18, and 20, 2003, in Dallas, Austin, Texas, and Atlanta, Georgia. your story sounds a lot better though haha.

I also bought "Chocolate and Ice" but I've seen that there are two different vinyls for it. one is blue & white and the other is brown & yellow. it's the same songs, just different colors. I have the brown & yellow one.

  • am I the only one who thinks Tennessee Fire is their best album? i wasnt that into it at first, but now i cant stop listening to it. its really the only album of theirs i like listening to start to finish (not counting Okonokos).

"If All Else Fails" is my favorite MMJ song.

Saw them last week. Highly Suspicious was so suprising. Didn't care for it on the new record but it absolutely slays live
“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”

I love Tennessee Fire, but I do skip 2 songs: "It's About Twilight Now" and "The Dark." just don't like them.

and I don't know what it is about "They Ran," but I love the beginning of it. "somebody stole my lighter, and where it'd go is higher." I love how it's sung, beautiful.

What colour is your Acoustic Citsuoca? I had the most pleasant surprise when I took mine out of the sleeve and it was orange!

way to steal that straight from wikipedia! but my packaging claims nothing of the sort, it says right on the front that it was recorded OCT 31st, halloween night at a buddy's halloween party in braintree, mass. just another reason not to trust wikipedia. i read it earlier too, and was puzzled.

straight off :D my packaging says the same thing, and although I don't really like wikipedia, I'll actually believe that a group like MMJ would make something up like that to add a certain "feeling" and "atmosphere" to the listener.

and yea, I really like wintersleep, glad to hear ab another fan.

I have a very similar opinion!

I love the band and also hope they don't hit the mainstream. They're like a little secret we don't want discovered... :o

I only got into them this year (Thanks to Audiodave) and saw them for the first time. Absolutely incredible. I'm seeing them again in November for 'An evening with...' and I can't wait! :D

I only owned 'Z', 'It Still Moves' and 'Evil Urges'... until this morning ;) I uploaded 'At Dawn', 'The Tenesee Fire' and 'Chocolate and Ice' and can't wait to listen to them over and over again like I did with the others :o
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
