Case in point, the Flutter Girl demo.

Ah yeah, that version is AMAZING!
  • Euphoria Morning in my opinion is a masterful album. And even though I'm also not totally crazy about Natasha's contributions to the album, I would sure as hell take her contributions over Timbaland's. The very little bit we've heard of the new album thus far sounds AWWWWWWFUL.

I'm waiting till I've heard more than eight bars from the lead-off single before I make any judgements on that!!! I'm looking forward to hearing what they've done together - Timbaland's a powerful innovator in his own field and I think both of them probably want to push themselves beyond what they're known for. I really liked the single Timbaland produced for Bjork and I'm intrigued to see where this collaboration with CC might go.

Yep - imo the Flutter Girl demo way surpassed the EM version. But then I thought the same about the solo acoustic "Like Suicide" - never could listen to the SG version any more after I heard that.

 Whilst I love both, I would have to go with the full band version just for that guitar solo! And I think the vocals are a little more dynamic.

    Word.

And whilst I enjoyed the contributions of Alain and Natasha, they didn't just play the music, they also wrote some of it; something I think is often overlooked. They co-wrote the music for the new version of Flutter Girl, Follow My Way and Mission. They wrote all the music for Disappearing One. Natasha wrote all the music for Pillow Of Your Bones and co-wrote Steel Rain with Chris.
I hardly think you can say that they didn't contribute positively to this album; they wrote a fair amount of it! Hence my comment that Chris works better in a band environment where ideas can be bounced off each other.

I agree, I think he works better when he has a little guidance. Also I think the instrumentation helped to give the album a cohesive identity, something Carry On was sorely lacking. The songs on Euphoria Morning all seem to fit together, despite the varying styles, Carry On just felt like a rushed mish-mash of songs thrown together.
  • I love Euphoria Morning, but in spite of rather than because of Eleven's contributions. Alain Johannes is a pretty good guitarist and a creative musician, but I don't personally think Natasha Shneider has much musical taste - she never seems to know when to stop with the embellishments and the effect of the arrangements can seem very overblown. I think a lot of the songs on that album would have been better in simpler arrangements.

This album just hasn't left my player at home since made this thread. Such a great album, such great vocals. Though, I have to say I really do like the arrangements, the vibe of the whole thing. I do like Sweet Euphoria as a single song, but it really is my least favorite in the alubm and doesn't seem to quite fit in with the rest. Still, I just wouldn't change a single thing about this album. The one Cornell song I think the keyboards did ruin is called... uhh... someone to something... its a unreleased one that is often associated with Heart of honey. Thats the only one where I don't appreciate her contribution.

    Someone To Die For?

I'm not a fan of that song either. It sounds like a MIDI file.

Good album indeed, but i always wondered why "Sunshower" wasn't released in the original tracklist. I know it was released as a bonus track (along with the french version of "Can't Change Me") in the japanese version and was also included in "Great Expectations" Soundtrack. That truly is a very nice song.
  • Sunshower and Moon Child are two of my favorite songs ever.

I can only hope that they actually demonstrate this. "Part Of Me" really didn't do much to wow anyone.

I'm amazed that so many people seem to think they've heard "Part of Me" after hearing 4 bars in a Verizon commercial and another 4 bars in a ringtone.

I mean.....wait to form an opinion until you've at least heard the song. ;) So far the whole album is being kept very carefully under wraps. Afaik, only Interscope execs and Chris's management have heard any more than the abovementioned 8 bars.

Okay, if we're being pedantic... "The 30 second clips of "Part Of Me" really didn't do much to wow anyone." And I'm pretty confident that one of said clips is the chorus to the song, since it uses the lyric "Part Of Me". I didn't like it. At all.

As its been said before 'Part of Me' is more likley to be on the album Timbaland is putting together rather then Chris's album.

    Fingers crossed.
  • Well, I've noticed that EM is my very favorite album in the last 3 weeks. The best vocals on an album that I know of.

Strange how things work out, that small clip we heard ages ago was a pretty good indicator of how the full song would turn out :p

If I were to rank Cornell's solo albums (bearing in mind we've only heard about half of Scream), this would be mine -

    Euphoria Morning
    Scream
    Carry On

EM is miles away better than the other two. But say what you want about Scream, at least it's different. After digesting it for about a year and a half, Carry On is just fucking bland. His voice is boring, the production's too slick, songs are just Audioslave knock offs. One thing I kept saying when Carry On came out was that I'd love to see Cornell use his voice in different ways, similar to that Hendrix cover he did of Hey Baby or Broken City from the Revelations album. Looks like that's what he did, albeit in a pretty unconvential way.

Still, his vocals are something else now. Part Of Me is dogshite to me but those vocals (not the lyrics ;)) are brilliant.

I dunno, he did change his vocals up on some songs on Carry On - I loved the falsetto on Ghosts. And I do enjoy a handful of songs from it. But his vocals were still in the recovery stage, and the whole album screams of a rush effort.

Scream just feels soulless to me, I think that review someone posted yesterday pretty much sums it up - it sounds like Cornell is doing a cameo appearence on his own songs.
  • I don't know why people are letting rip at Carry On. I know it's not as good as EM, but to me, it's a solid album with tracks like Save and Sound, Ghosts, Billie Jean and Disappearing Act.
The only track I thought weak was:- She's Not Your Man (I really don't like that song, i can't even get the title right). 15 out of 16 tracks isn't that bad.

EM is a masterpiece - perhaps it came at the time when everyone was feeling low and it brought a sense of Euphoria into their lives (excuse the pun). CC worked well with Alain and Natasha and most of her input I like (I'm not too keen on her contribution to When I'm Down, but I grew accustomed to it as time went on.)

Like Face Pollution said Scream is soulless. I still can't believe that someone who wrong beautiful songs such as Moon Child can write A Part of Me. This is worse than Ground Zero and the monkey yelps.
He also said Chris is doing a cameo of his own songs. That's what I think too.

The depth is as shallow as paddling pool water and pro-tools could have done a better production than Timberland.
