Embarrassingly sappy love songs you'll admit to liking

I watched St. Elmo's Fire recently and remembered how the love song theme was what I'd decided would be my wedding song. Keep in mind I was 13 at the time. It still tugs at the old heart strings though.

That was my senior class song. Words and all...

I would have to say anything by Air Supply. :P

    Take care,
I still want you all to "take care"--I am just damn tired of typing it.

I KNOW you didn't just say that... remember that part of the Faithfully video where Steve Perry shaves his porno mustache? I almost cried every time I saw it (which, in the early '80's, was about every 45 seconds on MTV).

It's a brilliantly crafted pop song.

I was worried about seeing your name in this thread. Thank fucking Christ you said something nice.. I love you man.

I have an incredibly high tolerance for supposedly "terrible" songs. It's only really mediocre songs that I hate to be honest.

I am a fan, for example, of Donna Lewis' perennial home furnishing store classic "I Love You Always Forever".

    It's OK, yep.

I enjoy almost the entire Dawson's Creek soundtrack. :D

:D that may be pushing it.

As a general rule for me though, as long as a sappy love song is anthemic rather than ponderous and glum, there's a good chance I'll like it. Only genuinely good songs can pull off depressing and still be worth a listen.

Think about it, there must be higher love
Down in the heart or hidden in the stars above
Without it, life is a wasted time
Look inside your heart, Ill look inside mine
    Things look so bad everywhere
In this whole world, what is fair?
We walk blind and we try to see
Falling behind in what could be

    Bring me a higher love
    Bring me a higher love
    Bring me a higher love
Wheres that higher love I keep thinking of?

Worlds are turning and were just hanging on
Facing our fear and standing out there alone
A yearning, and its real to me
There must be someone whos feeling for me
    Things look so bad everywhere
In this whole world, what is fair?
We walk blind and we try to see
Falling behind in what could be

    Bring me a higher love
    Bring me a higher love
    Bring me a higher love
Wheres that higher love I keep thinking of?

    Bring me a higher love
    Bring me a higher love
    Bring be a higher love
I could rise above on a higher love

    I will wait for it
Im not too late for it
Until then, Ill sing my song
    To cheer the night along
    Bring it...oh bring it...

I could light the night up with my soul on fire
I could make the sun shine from pure desire
Let me feel that love come over me
Let me feel how strong it could be

    Bring me a higher love
    Bring me a higher love
    Bring me a higher love
Wheres that higher love I keep thinking of?

Don't get me wrong, the vast majority of the music I listen to is unquestionably respectable but that's just for enjoyment, not as a pose :D If REO Speedwagon is what I'm in the mood for, that's damn well what I'll listen to :p
