And even if Rodders had been in the Small Faces, any answer other than Marriott would be just wrong :)

    I bet to differ. :)
When Ron Wood and Rod the Mod joined the band kept the name for their first album together and some time after. The album is called First Step. If you purchase the CD now it will only say Faces on the cover, but I have both the LP from when it was released in 1970 and a CD that I bought some time in the 90s. Both say Small Faces.

Old person that I am, I also remember them shortening the name. ;)

First Step was only named Small Faces in America and only by mistake. Rod and Ron Wood's band was never called the Small Faces.

    Possibly :) Look it up.

There might have been a lot of these misprinted copies pressed though. Wikipedia says it was a miscommunication problem but I don't know when they caught it.

Yeah, funny that the CD from 25 years later says Small Faces too. :)
    Still a great album.

it was more at record company insistence than a mistake. tha band didnt want to do it but you know the bigwigs and the chance of making cash. if people saw it was the small faces i guess the logic was they could be tricked into buying it thinking perhaps that nothing had changed with marriotts departure.
