Any band that was around for 5 years or more in the 80s is what I'm looking for.

Mine would have to be the Replacements without a doubt.

    Speaking as a child of the 80's...

    Growing up in Southern California, Oingo Boingo was the band. My favorite band of the 80's, although there have been other great ones mentioned (Dead Kennedys, Police, Clash, Cure, Smiths). Madness and the English Beat were other favorites. R.E.M. was great in the late 80's too, although I didn't figure it out till much later.
