unbeatable. maybe the third as of yet untracked disc may beat it...

I almost can't believe 'Slaughter.' They embody almost everything that I joke about. Also, how can a band named 'Slaughter' release a ballad like 'Fly to the Angels.' How can a ballad slaughter anything? I mean, I could come up with a joke about what a ballad slaughters, but these guys wouldn't understand, so I want to know what their answer would be.

I've checked it out. I don't have anything to offer to that thread, though, otherwise I'd be all over it. Maybe include 'Lucky' by Radiohead.

haha. I suppose you like what you like, and i suppose youre the bigger man for admitting you like a ballad by a band called "slaughter" perhaps thats what is enjoyable about it.
"hey guys check it out, this is a sweet song by slaughter" thats humurour in itself.

As far as my thread and you not being able to contribute...its because ive pretty much covered everything and its most likely the best mix ever....

I get the sense that you are trying to defend my liking of Slaughter. But I only like Slaughter because they are funny. When I am serious, I cannot tolerate Slaughter. Now let me check out your mix and try to find a flaw.

  • I picked that up yesterday. First listen through wasn't that impressed, but it is DT so it will probably get some more listens. Off of first listen I really liked the groovy-riffiness of "Root of all evil" and "these walls" was pretty good too.

Also picked up but haven't listened to....
Bruce Dickinsoin - A tyranny of souls
    Porcupine Tree - Deadwing
Dimeola, lucia, mclaughlin - Antologia, vol. 1

to be honest on my first listen it was really only the couple of ballads and panic attack which grabbed me but most of the album i really like now. root of all evil is really good, particulary the melodic vocals over the top of the heavy riffage. good use of past lyrics and melodies from past AA songs in that song (parts of glass prison and this dying soul which you probably noticed). the title track takes too long to get going (probably 4 minutes or so) but after that its really good and it just builds and builds. i think its the best vocal performance from james i've heard other than elements of persuasion.

I haven't heard Elements of Persuasion yet, but from you said it sounds like I should pick it up.

I listened to it again today first thing at work. I actually really like each song or hate it, much like i felt about ToT. Root of All Evil, These Walls, Panic Attack, and Never Enough i love!!! The 70s prog-rock style parts of Octavarium are great as well as the Dave Mustaine imitation towards the end of the song. I didn't like The answer lies within or Sacrificed Sons and I skipped right over I walk beside you.

I also listened to Tyranny of Souls today. It has some great material, but it is only 47 minutes long and a couple of the songs on the second part of the album (Believil, Devil on a Hog) are just plain silly. the pre-chorus for soul intruders ("half-lives, we'll live again") is one of the best musical passages of Bruce's career and reason enough to buy the album.
So shines a good deed in a weary world.......

So last night i was updatedin my winamp software and when i did so it gave me 50 free downloads from emusic. This subscription download service that honestly was not too bad. Lots of good indie music not as much mainstream rock though. So i signed up got 4 albums and cancelled free of charge :)

This is what i got any comments?

    -Dinosaur Jr Bug
I have a lot of these songs on other releases and live albums but i wanted the new remasted album. Plus this completes my Dinosaur Jr collection I have them all now :)

    -Sleater-Kinney- Dig me out
I got the woods a couple months ago and it is one of my favorite albums this year so i picked up this album. I like it so far... not as much as the woods yet though

-Yo La Tengo- I can hear the heart beating as one
I have another Yo La Tengo album and it was kind of hit or miss so i figured i'd give this one a shot since it was free

    -Spoon-Gimmie Fiction
I've only heard songs on a firends mix cd i did not lvoe them but i thought i would give an album a proper shot.

any comments? Do you guys have these albums? do they suck?

I just don't like this guy's voice maybe it will grow on me. Only heard the first 3 songs so far

I love those guys. Surprised it hasn't grown on you yet, but to each his own. ;) I loved em from the first note. I think they have tons of talent and quite a bit of soul. Wish I could see them live, maybe that will do the trick for ya!

They were not bad live. I just can't get into them. They are not a bad band there is much worse out there, but they don't blow my doors off.

Wolf Parade- Apologies to the Queen

    Black Rebel Motorcycle Club- Howl

    Sufjan Stevens- Illinoise

I got them all last night. So far i've heard the Wolf Parade twice and i'm enjoying it a lot. I've listend to half of the other two albums. THE Stevens is what i expected it is cool, the BRMC is not quite what i expected. I was hoping for a little more hard rock i guess, but that aside so far it still sounds pretty good. It is very early on in listening to them though my opinions may cange but i'm relatively happy with my purchases.
