I just think it is a funny litmus test for the 2 of you to have.
well i don't personally know stevieraveon, but yeah, there are dealbreakers for me, that's one of 'em for me for sure! just like i don't trust people who don't like animals, speaks volumes to me
Oh my, I can't believe that man could annoy anyone, he's the most amazing frontman ever to grace a rock an roll band, and even now, after all the success with Zepp he continues to push himself for the sake of what he loves doing, rather than monetary gain...he's a gentleman and a scholar jamie...how could you...how could you ???????:(
I've got nothing against anyone who likes Led Zep, as I've told you, I used to like them, I just get no enjoyment out of them anymore, plus Plant's vocal adlibs and stage persona always got on my nerves He's definitely less annoying these days, much more composed and graceful, and I have nothing against the man, it's just not for me.
"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"

I just don't get people that say they hate LZ. It is weird.
They rock the pants off most of the crap out today.
And JB was the best drummer ever.
Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
I was driving my van this afternoon, listening to boring old mainstream radio, when out of the blue they played Zepp...Rock and roll. What a feeling, I mean the volume went up, the steering wheel took a real pounding during Bonzo's opening...who couldn't like that????????

amen on all that! and i understand, everybody's different, just like there are people who prefer the who to LZ. i'm the opposite myself. to me led zep is the epitome of rock and roll. and sure people say they ripped all the blues masters off. but they made their own magic.
i guess not trusting someone who doesn't like LZ might be a wee bit strong.

Some crazy person wouldn't like it.

I've heard people say they suck!! That blows my mind!!! I mean it's one thing to not like something, that's fine. But at least have some appreciation for what they did. Those first 4 albums are absolute genius in every aspect; production, recording, arrangement, and of course the music itself.
I pledge to you a government that will not only work well, but wisely, its ability to act tempered by prudence, and its willingness to do good, balanced by the knowledge that government is never more dangerous than when our desire to have it help us blinds us to its great power to harm us.

Never really had an attachment, I had much more of an attachment to Sabbath at one point. I'm not going to say some clown thing like "I don't respect their talent" or, "THEY SUCK!", but it just wasn't there.
I will say, though, I find myself playing more and more Zep as I go along, so who knows... I've started running out of stuff to learn and been moving on to new things.
Anyone with an ear for good rock music should like LedZep. There is nothing not to like. The rock persona along with the often mythical lyrics, combined with the fact that they had the greatest drummer of all time and one of the top 4 or 5 guitarists of all time. Its rock at its best, and very few before or after have been able to come anywhere near the talent of Led Zeppelin. I know music is subjective and each person has their own taste so i can understand why people dont like them, but you have to respect them.

Speaking objectively for a moment, I think they became far more popular in the States than here in the UK, at least in the first few years of their career. They quickly maximised their earning potential here as a live act (which doesn't always signify mainstream success), and the States was all that was left for them, financially. They filled the hole in the arena circuit left after Hendrix died, and built a hard, and very broad, US fanbase. A mixture of media sour grapes and jealousy in the British music press meant they often got a hard time here, critically speaking, while on the other hand, respected musicians such as Mitch Mitchell justifiably noted that Zep wasn't coming up with musical ideas that hadn't been tried a few years beforehand, at the start of the British blues-rock boom (at which Jimi was the centre when he hit London).
As for Zep's folk-rock side, they were respected by friends and musicians such as Roy Harper and Sandy Denny, but again, among British fans of acoustic music at the time, Page was often seen as uncool in his "borrowing" of Bert Jansch's guitar innovations.
We tend to see Zep now in a narrative of the evolution of hard rock and heavy metal (along with Deep Purple and Black Sabbath and the rest), but I don't think their influence on British bands was altogether obvious until after punk and the rise of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM). Just look at old footage of the Old Grey Whistle Test, and you'll see that whereas US bands such as Montrose would come over to the UK, obviously influenced by Zep, UK acts themselves weren't following their example so much, until the NWOBHM movement. (Pretty ironic, I know, since the movement was trying to characterise itself by toning down the blues-rock characteristics of the early Zep era). Without that happening at the end of the seventies, I don't think the massive success of Knebworth 1979 could have flourished. After that point, you'd get Robert Plant appearing on TISWAS!
That's not to say I dislike them. I'm indifferent. I have never really gone out of my way to listen to them, because I never really heard anything that caught my attention.
I'm not a Led Zep fan, either. I appreciate them for their legitimate place in the pantheon of rock, but they aren't my cup of tea. There are a few such band/musicians who I respect, but can only listen to for about ten minutes before I've had enough. Also in this category:
Janis Joplin
The Doors
Jimi Hendrix
Anyone else have this kind of impatience with older bands?
I'm another one that doesn't DISLIKE them but doesn't really LIKE them. I like songs of theirs and I appreciate their musicianship but obviously I prefer The Who. It's just personal taste, the way I might disagree with someone over which is a band's best album.
I've listened to a LOT of rock music and nothing comes close to matching Led Zeppelin for me. I can understand people not getting them, but for me they are the pinnacle that rock music has to offer. GODS!
"...though my problems are meaningless....that don't make them go away...."
I always loved Led Zep. Got all their music on the zune. The Beatles on the other hand, cant stand. The Doors are awesome and so is Jimmy Hendrix.

Me for one. I used to, now I get nothing out of them. Just not my thing anymore. Plant always kind of annoyed me too (sorry eMMi).
is it cause of all those pics I linked to you on MSN?
haha, I don't mind and I'm sure you know that.
like it's been said, lots of people surely don't like Led Zeppelin. some of my closest friends don't.. and one of them only likes Stairway To Heaven ( ) and that's quite alright by me. I don't think they're insane or anything. they just happen to have worse taste in music than me.
"Don't be faint-hearted, I have a solution! We shall go and commandeer some small craft, then drift at leisure until we happen upon another ideal place for our waterside supper with riparian entertainments."
I love LZ....more so back in the day however they will always be deep rooted in my musical make up...like Neil Young, Punk Rock and forever Pearl Jam. They are deep within my musical pyschic you could say....
Peace,

Bruce: “What? You’re gonna compare Eric Clapton with that fucking Jimmy Page? Would you really compare that?”
Ling: To be fair, they’re different kinds of player, aren’t they?
Bruce: “No! Eric’s good and Jimmy’s crap. And with that I rest my case.”
That was posted on planetrock last week, it has since come about that Jack was more than 3 sheets to the wind, he was at an awards ceremony, and winding up the interviewer....

So relax, even Jack likes em, though he is a bit jealous as he says
I don't like the Beatles.
Jack's always been a bit outrageous. He probably just doesn't get interviewed as much as he used to so he made the most of it!
