is POD "rock and roll"?

i saw staind last night in AC, and POD opened for them...

during the set, the singer kept saying how this is "rock and roll music" and a "rock and roll" concert...

i TOTALLY disagree...for many reasons....which i wont get into at this point

how can they consider themselves rock and roll? do people think they are?

    By POD do you mean P.O.D? I like them but i think they desperately need their old guitarist back! And i consider them rock why not? Its all rock n' roll music, they just have a different style.

    They have loud guitars and drums. That qualifies for me, even though the singer raps most of his lyrics. What do you think it is if it ain't rock?

    yes thats who i meant...forgot the .!

    i just consider their genre to be a mix of 311/linkin parkish/west coast-wanna be gangsta/anything but rock music type

    i dont consider screaming and rapping to be rock and roll...

    Screaming is very rock and roll.
    As for rapping, I'm not sure where I stand on that. If the underlying music involves a guitar and distortion, it's rock to me. You can call it rap-rock fusion or whatever, but a song like "Alive" or "Satellite" rocks me in a way that true rap does not.

    if POD isnt rock because the singer raps does that mean Rage Against the Machine and the Peppers arent rock either? Dont think so...its just a different type of rock, and, in my opinion, not very good rock in PODs case.
    I've faced it, a life wasted, and I'm never going back again.

    haha. good one. i have their Satellite album and aside from the songs I mentioned it's not really a winner.

    Agreed.. just because the lead singer has to sing song his lyrics doesn't make the band not a rock band. Although it does rate on the lower end of the scale.

    P.O.D. was the worst live act I've ever seen. I still think they should change their name to P.O.C. for Piece of Crap.

    Last night was horrible. Their singer has no dignity left in my mind. He asked the crowd at least a dozen times to make some noise and I thought we were at a rock show. Maybe the crowd would make some noise if they didn't actually suck so much.

    Also their three hits are three of the most cliche songs ever. Here Comes the Boom, We are the Youth of a Nation (What teenager won't like that song. I mean can they possibly be singing that in 10 years?), and Alive (I Wish I could Fly) Seriously can you come up with three more cliche rock stereotypes in order to get fans.

    Also their lead singer is a jackass. He sees two people get thrown out for starting a mosh pit at the Borgata. So he goes on the mic and says "I thought this is Rock and Roll. Is this Rock and Roll? Get that Pit going. We've never had a show in the last 2 and a half months without a pit." Did he really think that security would allow a Pit because he said so.

    Seriously he's a jackass and was practically begging the crowd to make noise and to form a pit. I have never seen a performer that desparate to get the crowd involved.

    Mogwai is a band that uses bass, drums and guitars and produces some pretty distinctly un-rock sounds. Not to mention Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Explosions in the Sky, and most any other post-rock instrumental band.

    And I would like you to give me a few good reasons as to why Metal is rock and roll. Specifically, say, Death Metal.

    You should have seen Green Day a few months back... alot of crowd interaction and getting the crowd to sing along..

    I know different types of crowds and venues but similar shows.

    Well if you go choosing one of the first Heavy Metal bands, arguably "Proto-metal," along with Deep Purple and company, I can't really argue. I'm talking more along the line of Cryptopsy and Nile and Blind Guardian.

    I'm not saying you have to like them i'm just saying they are hard rock, but next to Limp Bozkit never. The lyrics P.O.D write are about hope and inspiration they don't write about the nookie and crap like that, and plus P.O.D can play reggea which is a big plus, cause not just any rock band is good enough to bust out with some reggea. :)
