The new album is an awesome return to form, arse kicking stuff.
Thinks looked pretty bleak after St Anger but thankfully they're back to blistering form with Death Magnetic, bring on the tour bitches.

I've listened to it three times already, and it has stood up. Best shit I've heard from them in almost 15+ years.

the video is pretty excellent actually, really something else.
An arena tour would be nice, I haven't seen them sice 1996, and my 11 year old boy is completely smitten with them lately. We'll get the new album next week, we're patient.
Been listening to ..And Justice For All at the weekend, my old vinyl, my lad was amazed!!! "dad, how do we get this thing (record player) to work again?"
    I came, I saw, I concurred.....
  • I've listened up to the third track and then stopped myself. I'm extemely impressed - some very heavy shit. I'm going to wait until the 12th to hear the rest - I want the official release day to be somewhat special for me.

  • Just picked up 2 tickets thru a local radio station pre-sale for the NJ show on Jan 31th. Glad I got in on this show cause I hate Nassau Coliseum and the 31th is a Saturday night. Plus they are playing February 1st also in NJ but thats Super Bowl Sunday so I would have rather not gone to a show that day.

But since I bought tickets thru the presale they are forcing me to buy the cd as part of my order. One cool thing is you get a complimentary digital download to the show you are adding. But instead of $62.50 they got me for $78.94 a ticket w.o the usual ticketmaster fees. Still can't complain that much since I was expecting the tickets to be more expensive.

Im pleasantly suprised with this album......Much better than St.Anger....

It has the metal of Justice with the bluesy soul and melody of Load.....

  • I can't wait to get the CD. The tracks I listened to on their web site I have liked. The video for The Day That Never Comes is pretty good, but my favorite video is still the long version of One.

All Nightmare Long is the standout track IMO

I used to be a big fan, but that whole hypocritical fiasco with Napster really, really turned me off of them.

Hypocritical? For calling people out who are stealing your art? Given the state of the music industry, it turned out to be prophetic.

New stuff sounds really good, by the way...can't wait to see them in January...been 4 years I think.

In terms of technique, I like it so far, and it's really damn heavy, thank god. But it still feels empty. It's like I'm enjoying it but not moved by it. First impression, may change with time.

Kinda like Megadeth with "United Abominations." Its heavy and aggressive but at times feels forced and its being heavy just for the sake of. I do think the new Metallica is a better album than that one though.

I can't complain so far. This is the "progression" they should have taken instead of "Load"

    Agreed.

I'm not sure this album feels empty or forced. It lacks the impact of a "Master of Puppets" or "...And Justice For All" but it definitely doesn't feel all that forced. There are a few weak links in there, but I believe the album stands up by itself.

One thing's for sure: it has definitely restored my faith in Metallica.

  • I am one of the fans who has refused to give up on metallica even though I haven't liked an album since 1991 and finally I believe my patience will be rewarded. Day that never comes, cyandie and my apocalypse were instant hits with me and I just listened to The Judas Kiss on youtube.....based on those four songs alone this is the best album they have put out since the good old days even if the rest of the tracks are fuckin awful

and the shortest song is 5:01....ah, takes me back to and justice for all....can't wait to download that bad boy next thursday night!

Well, one could argue that they've been stealing their fans' money for 17 years and done precious little in return.

Maybe the fans did not get their money's worth -- I am one of them -- but they got something in return.....the boys got nothing from napster

Metallica or any band for that matter doesn't force anyone to buy their albums. It's the consumer's choice. You buy it or you don't.

  • I'll never understand people's problems with Load and ReLoad, aside from the fact that they're not full on brutalz. I love those albums. I even like St. Anger.

I LOVE Load and ReLoad, Metallica at their most melodic, bluesy and awesome,.....

Well my problem with those records is they just aren't good. I couldn't care less if they were brutally heavy. For me it was poor, uncreative songwriting. Don't get me wrong, both albums have some good songs. But they could have easily taken the best from both and made it one 11 or 12 song album. I know it was hard to follow the black album (which all the thrash purists even hated) but they could have made it much more interesting, especially given it was a 5 year gap. I was beyond disappointed the day Load came out, and twelve years later I still find it sounds uninspired and creatively bland for the most part.

    Meh, different strokes.
  • For the record, I was 12 and bought And Justice for all, that was a super great album, then came the 90's...well that was fun. Now that I'm older and appreciate different styles, all the hype surrounding this album got me to get the leak...

St. Anger was Better then this....I've been trying. But again Anger was better. but Metallica live is something to see.

Well...no you couldn't. There's plenty of albums I don't buy because I'm dubious about the content. I like the black album, Load, and Reload well enough and don't like St. Anger. I've seen them live 3 times in that period. In all cases I've received at least what was promised and, especially in the case of the shows, more than my money's worth.

Regardless, art isn't yours to steal.
