The only band on your list that is even "OK" is TVR. The rest are crap.

I'd say his list kicks ass. Music is a subjective thing, and what kicks his ass may not kick yours. That is okay. The topic of this thread is not "Rate the albums that are kicking my ass." It is simply a list of which are kicking yours. If you want to make an intelligent contribution, at least ask why those albums are kicking his ass. That could actually lead to good conversation.

    As for me,

    Arcade Fire- Neon Bible
The Shins- Wincing the Night Away
    Norah Jones- Not Too Late
Modest Mouse- We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank
Rise Against- The Sufferer and the Witness
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

    Arcade Fire- Neon Bible
    Neil Young- Massey Hall 1971
    Son Volt- The Search
    Wayne Petti- City Lights Align
R.E.M.- Murmur (their recent hall of fame induction made me feel like dusting this one off. I haven't listened to it in years. Fantastic album!)
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."

    Son Volt - The Search
Ryan Adams - 48 Hour Demos (yes, they count)
Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
    Kathleen Edwards - Failer
The Shins - Wincing the Night Away

Unfortunately, I can't put the new Wilco on my list. I cannot listen to Sky Blue Sky without getting completely bummed out. It's not working for me, and I was SO looking forward to this album.

James Mercer is probably the best lyricist on the planet right now (even above Ed). When you actually sit down to look at the lyrics of songs like Pink Bullets or Young Pilgrims, it is completely amazing how clever and deep they are. The harmonies and melodies of their songs are unbelievably beautiful. In terms of the music, I find much of it fascinating. Take Sea Legs for example. I never saw that one coming, and it is my favorite track on the new album. More than anything, much like Arcade Fire and Modest Mouse, The Shins are a breath of fresh air. They have a style all their own and aren't simply carbon copies of everything else out there. Based on your list, it seems like you like a bit heavier, more rocking songs. That's cool too. I own every album you listed, and I love them. But I believe in fully embracing the new and wonderful stuff that is out there too, and as it now stands, the place where magic is happening is in the world of "indie rock."
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.
