Reznor has stated on the NIN website that he is finished writing and recording the new record. He will begin mixing/tracking in January and it will be released in 2007.

He states it's a highly conceptual album, very noisy and doesn't resemble the "With Teeth" album whatsoever.

this is so exciting. and its release is a day before my almost birthday! (leap year=)

NIN is defeinitely one of my all time favorite bands. Probably second to PJ. I hope this means they are touring next year!

  • Wow. Great news. I thought "With Teeth" was amazing. NIN tends to put out remix albums (which to me are a bit disappointing) after each new studio release. But by what he wrote, I'm guessing this is not going to be one of those. YAY!

I do like With Teeth. I also like how he describes the new one - 'conceptual' and 'noisy'. The DVD is out 2/27 - I wonder when the CD will be out.

I think there's a good chance of some more touring based on some stuff I read.

oh - I should have read first poster's post more carefully - I see that you have also quote conceptual and noisy

Yeah I like Broken too - especially Wish and Gave Up. I'm sure you've seen the video for Gave Up? Its just playing but so greatly intense.

So, noisy. For Trent to call it noisy seems to me to mean strap yourself in using the body harness AND put on your helmet - I can't wait!

But the big question is WHEN in 2007 for the CD! Sometimes on the Spiral people get to post questions and he does answer them periodically - probably 50 people will ask this.

more from Trent on the new album...i like how this album is gonna end up sounding..
NINE INCH NAILS mastermind Trent Reznor has revealed more information about the group's upcoming album, tentatively due in early 2007. In a December 27, 2006 blog entry on the official NIN fan club web site The Spiral, Reznor writes, "Usually when I finish a record, I have to go into battle with the people whose job is to figure out how to sell the record. The only time that didn't happen was 'With Teeth'. This time, however, I'm expecting an epic struggle. This is not a particularly friendly record and it certainly doesn't sound like anything else out there right now. Artists these days are not encouraged to experiment or take risks, and my punishment is on its way.

i go w/ this anticpated release date with caution. trent has had a habit of saying he's done w/ something and then it comes out 2 years later.

however, i'll sport some cautious optimism about it coming out in '07. and i hope it's uber noisy and chaotic. and i also hope he'll tour again. i missed him last tour b/c of the hurricanes down here in FL.

Well considering that he hasnt released anything worse than very good.....I would expect the same from the new album. Hope they tour also, one of the best bands I have ever seen live, even better live than some bands that I like more than them. Does the dvd have any footage of the summer outdoor gigs?

I believe so - a good bit of it is from the winter tour, but there's about 5 songs from the summer tour.

From the trailer I saw, it looked like footage from the arena shows right before the summer...with the big sheet screen around the band and what not...I loved the summer show though. I haven't been blown away like that in a while.

I saw them twice last summer too. Just amazing. There's a track listing on the main NIN site, and most of the songs are from the winter 06 tour but then it says additional tracks from the summer 06, including Somewhat Damaged, which was one of the best performed songs IMO, Closer, Non-Entity, Help Me I am in Hell, and Only. I don't know what Closer was like in the winter tour, but were the visuals ever cool in the summer tour.

Nice, I see the list now thanks. And I totally agree....Somewhat Damaged at the summer show I saw was one of the best performances...opening song played behind the cage. Amazing.

I'm so glad he's jumping right into the next album so they can tour again soon.
