Listened to it for the first time today. I love it also. It absolutely rocks! Its early, but I think its better than both Elephant and GBMSatan.

i love it too. 300 mph outpour blues and a matyr for my love for you are my favorites. they have definately expanded their sound. i mean trumpets... bagpipes... i did not expect those on a white stripes album. catch hell blues is great too, sounds like they did that one live probably one take. jack just oozes talent. he does not wrong it seems. despite all the meg haters i think she handles the sticks really well. seriously you think about how hard it must be to drum around jack's build and destroy in a single instant style. she knows just when to get out of the way and when to get behind and push. all the talent in the world is useless if you cant feel the flow of a song and know where to wail and when to shut up.

I have the same list as you, minus Rag and Bone. The outro where they scream "yeah yeah yeah yeaaahh!" is just a little too 12-year-old for me. Other than that, my list= your list.

EDIT: I also like the Torrential Outpour. Whatev, the lists are still close.
  • I think this album will eventually be my favorite of theirs. I absolutley love "You dont know what love is". The part where he sings "I'm going to lay right into you" and plays a nice little riff always gets me. Love that tune, and would think it has the greatest chance at being their next single.

So much better than Get Behind Me Satan. Back to the raw, squealing guitars that put the on the map in the first place and much more full and expanded. Get to see them again in October. For those who haven't, their a band to definitely see before you die!

Definitley better than "Get Behind Me Satan". Too early to tell if it's better than "Elephant".

That being said, I'm really loving Icky Thump.

There's no question is it better than Elephant, the question is "how does Icky Thump stand up to De Stijl and the Self-Titled?"
  • I realized today that You Don't Know What Love Is sounds more like a Raconteurs song than a stripes song...not that that's a bad thing. It's one of my favorite songs on the record :)
"Everyone is a patriot in some form or another.... i prefer the intelligent ones."

    "She fell funny"

I REALLY love this record. CAN'T WAIT to see them! 2 weeks sunday!
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V
  • I ment to add...doesn't this album remind you of Led Zeppelin? Especially Cath Hell Blues, sounds exactly like In My Time of Dying...i mean EXACTLY

Little Cream Soda sounds Zeppelish as well....just so many partys of many sounds sound like either Plant singing, or Page's guitar

You're both wrong. Era V. is hands-down the best album this year. Icky Thump is second, I guess.

This whole album rocks! I especially am liking Rag and BOne and Conquest right now. The only song that I haven't gotten into is St. Andrew. I listen to it but it's just odd. Does anyone else think 300 M.P.H. sounds a little Bob Dylanish? Dylan and White are good friends. Wish I could go seem them again this year. They put on a show that rivals any band.

    Era Vulgaris is good

    not great

several songs there are sounding kinda like STP.

I don't understand the love for Explosions in the Sky

my garage band can play ambient weave instrumentals like this all day.

Boring as fucking shit... not brilliant...not genius...just fucking elevator music

oh ....maybe I'm supposed to be stoned or trippin to get it
    the Minions

Yesterday, it was "Effect & Cause". Today, it's "Little Cream Soda".
