Thank You Ten Club, But D.c......

I just want to thank the ten club for my awesome seats again(mike's side, a couple of rows up 121). That being said, I must yell at the front 1-10 rows!!! I never seen less energy at the 38 shows I've been too!! I propose that the Ten Club, before giving out those front row seats, give a test to the fan club member. The test is simple: Can you name any albums after VS??? I understand they have been paying their dues for a lot of years, but please, their is PJ music after 1994!!!!!

Thanks again Ten Club and thanks to The Green Turtle for fucking me up so good!!!!

I'm always surprised at the number of ten club members who stand with their arms crossed with a blank expression on their face for the entire show. I guess people enjoy the shows in different ways. I don't have a problem with it. I just can't imagine being at a pearl jam show and not displaying any sort of emotion or energy.
  • There are albums after Vs? Are any of them worth picking up? :D

My niece was definitely into it as was I. The woman to my left was into it. The man to my right was more sedate. At least a group in row #3 was definitely rocking. You have to give a little to the first couple rows, though. It's possibly their first time to feel "exposed" and it was pretty hot up there. I saw the people behind the stage getting groovy. There was definitely a lot of singing going on.

Yeah, don't you remember the greatest hits album in 1995?? It was produced by Scott Stapp...

It's quite possible those first 10 rows were NOT club members, but seats reserved for the suits and their friends and families. At 2 shows I've been to, Ed apologized for seating for club members and bashed corporate greed. At the Toledo show, my Ten Club seats were off to the side of the stage, almost at a 90 degree angle.

Ms. Haiku, I'm just saying as a whole, from someone sitting right on top of them. I know the Haiku's rock out!! Maybe somewhere on You Tube we'll be able to see the difference between D.C. and say, the next four shows. It's all good though and the croud WAS very LOUD...

I don't think people understand how mesmerizing it is to be right in Eddie's face. You just want to watch him. Many of the people in the first two rows had never been that close before. I was in the 6th row, dead center and everyone was moving a lot, but we were not allowed the cross the pink tape line in front of us. Security in the aisle beteen the 5th and 6th row was very strict. From the people I have seen before, the first ten rows appeared to be almost all 10C members.

O.K., you're all right, and I'm wrong on this one. I decided I've never seen so much energy in the front 1-10 rows. I was making a point and as usual everyone is so defensive. Let's talk about something else now. Did you all drink a lot???

I think everyone was shot from Camden shows. Eddie was drinking water all night, barely any wine. I think he was hurting too. OR, saving some energy for tonight!!!!!!!!!

My good friend is exactly one of these people you described. He stands still, expressionless and emotionless. But that doesn't mean he's not having a good time--it's who he is. He loved DC by the way, but you wouldn't have guessed it by looking at him. Can't read a book by it's cover!

I will gladly take anyone's seat up front who isn't energetic about the show -- been a ten club member for five years and have never seen the front row. if they're gonna look dead, like i said, i'll gladly rock out up front for ya :)

I was not disagreeing with you, merely making an observation from a different seating perspective.

hey man, I'm hearing you, but this isnt exactly new is it? any euro fan will tell you how surprised they were when they first saw touring band 2000 - the lack of any form of enthusiasm from every crowd is blinding....compared to the crowds over here its almost motionless....My god the euro crowds are always nuts...probably because we're starved of our Pj for years on end

Hey you saw what you saw. And it's your right to call people out on it. It's a slippery slope, though, to be critical of how people enjoy shows because everyone does it differently. I don't agree with a lot of the things I see (sitting down, leaving early, piss breaks during Evenflow, etc) but what's the "proper" way to experience a show is an ongoing and endless debate - so be ready for opposition to your views...

Hey - scored front row via the lottery, seats were between Ed & Stone. I was rocking out the entire show and still am hoarse from yelling and singing. Not all of us where standing still.

well jimbee, I define how people should conduct themselves at a concert. That's exactly why I started this thread. I now realize I could be wrong!! I also realize that the average PJ fan is now well into their thirties and out of shape. Yes, that is a description of me also, but I always find a way to bring the beginning feeling of Pearl Jam back. I personally just could not imagine standing there, staring at Ed. Now I know, thanks to you and some others, that I should not judge..... Like I said before, I'll wait patiently for MSG and Mansfield, because in the original thread I WAS pointing my finger at the D.C. crowd, not every crowd.....

I, too, was disappointed in the energy of the crowd and for Ed's lack of wine consumption. LOL

I also would like to thank The Green Turtle for serving me the most delicious turkey burger I've ever had in my life AND for helping me get sufficiently fucked up before the show. I'm not sure if anyone on this message board was a victim of my Holga attacks, but I stood outside at The Green Turtle with my Holga camera and bugged people to let me take a photo of their PJ T-shirts....some non-PJ shirts, too. My favorite were the two German guys who, when I asked if I could take a photo of their shirts, simply replied, "We are from Germany." I said, "Okay!" then snapped a photo of their little German chests and left them with thoroughly confused looks on their faces. I also dug the guy who let me photograph his McCready T-shirt and kilt ensemble. Can't wait to get these rolls developed!

I don't remember seeing you there, but tell me you saw the Ed look-alike before the show, sitting at a table outside. Same hair cut, same facial hair, same fuckin face!!! We called him out on it, and he said " I don't try to look like Ed..."

    BULLSHIT!!!

good to hear the Turtle got you good too. We came down from outside of Boston, and had an unreal time.

Ummmm....I'm not even kidding about this, but you may have been talking to my husband. He gets that all the time. LOL People either tell him he looks like Eddie Vedder or a homeless person. If you're standing in front of the Turtle looking at the front door, we were off to the left side.

I won the lottery, and had front row, Stone's side. I was jumping around and dancing the whole time, yet I will say it was hard at first b/c it's surreal to have front row, plus the security guards are right in your face, haha. Anyway, I didn't waste the opporunity at all and did rock out. However, 2nd row had WAY more people dancing around than the first, and I have a feeling the intimidation factor weighs heavily on that.

  • I was in section 121 also and could see around and I too felt the front was dead. I cant wait to see what I get tonight and tomorrow. I may be in the hotel pennsylvania hopefully the ten club will supply binochulars.

If this has been discussed, I apologize I've looked. Does anyone know the story of the young kid who jammed with the band during All Along the Watchtower. I was sitting about 22 rows back on the floor and he appeared to jump on stage from the audience and I saw a security guard on Mike's side who looked like he was ready to go and get him until Eddie starting talking to him, but boy that kid looked like he was floating. What an awesome experience. Anyone know the story?

Regarding the comments on the fan club seats. My friend has been in 10C since about 1992 and we always do PJ together. I was thrilled with our row V seats, but quite honestly, I couldn't see any of Mike or Jeff. Very little of Stone because of all the tall men in front of us. The good news is I could see Eddie straight on but only from the waist up. Since I doubt if anyone ever relinquishes their fan club membership and thus allow us to move up, I think next time, I will forego 10c seats and get seats on the side. You won't hear me complain because a PJ concert is like nothing else, but I was kinda jealous of the people who, because the seats are staggered upwards could see the entire stage and the entire performances. The comment my friend made was "these are the best seats we've ever had, but the worst view". I still don't understand why a venue like Verizon Center doesn't have jumbotron viewing. Is that a PJ thing? I've never gone to any other concerts there. Regarding fan enthusiasm, I didn't see many people that weren't getting into the music, but there were a few. I know they were moving and jumping enough to obstruct my view. I was able, though, to get some of those tall men to take me some awesome pictures of Eddie over the crowd.

Thanks Guys, you rock as usual. Still one of the only bands I know that has been doing this for so long and gets better and more enthusiastic every time I see them. Back in the day, Eddie rarely raised his eyes to look at the crowd. It's so fun to watch them having fun.

I don't worry about how other people act at shows... All I want is to have a great time. If some people want to stand there and absorb the experience... ain't my business. In fact, I would rather be next to them than some first round 'American Idol' reject flayling his arms and singing all of the songs into my ears.
    ...
For me... having a great times does not mean dancing and screaming out the lyrics at the top of my lungs. I mean, sometimes I dance... but, trust me, you don't want to hear me singing.

Finally--- nice to see the 50 & over crowd represented here! This thread reminds me of the first time I saw PJ... people might have thought I wasn't a "real fan" because I wasn't jumping up and down and all around. I was just really into the music and getting to know the band. Now, I know I don't have to excercise on a PJ Concert day--- I get my workout at the show! Still, I don't judge others if they aren't as animated as I am. We all began somewhere. :-)
