I just started getting into Murmer lately, and wow, I can't stop spinning, what a masterpiece. This is definitly my favourite "pre-famous" REM album from the 1980s. So may good tracks. Catapult, Shaking Through, Perfect Cirlce, Laughing.....

I have yet to get into their earlist work, but I will at some point. The move I discover from REM, the more I love.

    1. If you are limiting yourself to five, start with "...And I Feel Fine (The Best of 1982-1987)" On this cd, you get 21 awesome songs from that era, from hits like "The One I Love" to great songs the fans have always loved like "Feeling Gravity's Pull" and "Pretty Persuasion." Though it is a greatest hits record, it plays like a phenominal, cohesive album. I listen to it all the time.

    2. "Automatic for the People" --the band's best album

    3. "Reveal" ---an underappreciated cd

    4. "Out of Time"

    5. "New Adventures in Hi Fi"

1986 was their best tour performance....

Stipe voice was at its finest..

They need to make a vault release and satisfy us "old school" fans..

    Automatic for the People
    Life's Rich Pageant
    Document
    Reckoning
    New Adventures in Hi-Fi
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."

How big is your REMania? Can you name the song? "I'd like it here if I could leave and see you from a long way away"

    Ok this has changed already...

    Let's try this:

    New Adventures In Hi-Fi
    Out Of Time
    Up
    Around The Sun
    Monster

I'm sure this will have changed in another week, as i'm starting to get into Life's Rich Pageant, Reckoning and Fables Of The Reconstruction. The more REM albums I hear, the more albums I tend to rank above Automatic For The People. Don't get me wrong, I do like the album, but it just seems to be their most critically acclaimed album...but look at the competition it has!
