What are your top 5 REM albums in order?

I have not listened to them all yet, just want to get an idea which ones i should listen to. Ive listened to most of their older albums, and not many of the more recent ones (past 12 years). Haven't listened to Murmur yet either.

I don't know where to put Dead Letter Office/Chronic Town as it is kind of a b-side release & Eponymous + In time are greatest hits so they really don't count. The boys are writing and are back in the studio again this year. Woo-hoo!!! That's the greatest thing about R.E.M., there are albums for all occassions, whatever mood you're in.

I just started getting into Murmer lately, and wow, I can't stop spinning, what a masterpiece. This is definitly my favourite "pre-famous" REM album from the 1980s. So may good tracks. Catapult, Shaking Through, Perfect Cirlce, Laughing.....

It's growing up just like me.
  • I say....

    1. If you are limiting yourself to five, start with "...And I Feel Fine (The Best of 1982-1987)" On this cd, you get 21 awesome songs from that era, from hits like "The One I Love" to great songs the fans have always loved like "Feeling Gravity's Pull" and "Pretty Persuasion." Though it is a greatest hits record, it plays like a phenominal, cohesive album. I listen to it all the time.

    2. "Automatic for the People" --the band's best album

    3. "Reveal" ---an underappreciated cd

    4. "Out of Time"

    5. "New Adventures in Hi Fi"

1986 was their best tour performance....

Stipe voice was at its finest..

They need to make a vault release and satisfy us "old school" fans..
