Count me on the side of those who favor the earlier stuff. The whole appeal of the band to me was their uniqueness as a rock band who had a legitimate, strong funk slant to their music. Flea's bass was and is my favorite part of that sound. Just phenomenal. The last couple of records by and large ignored that strength and the result was a much more homogenous product. Their not neccessarily BAD records, but they don't have that style that sets them apart from the rest. That funk. I miss that, and I'm hoping against hope that this new one recaptures it.

BTW Mother's Milk OVERRATED? BY WHO? That record doesn't get ENOUGH love IMO.

I saw them perform their new single on Top of the Pops last night and I have to say I really liked it. The guys still seem to have so much energy which is great to see. Can't wait for the new album to come out. :)

  • My question to all the people who don't like the RHCPs music over the past few albums is this: 'what would you prefer they do?'. The RHCPs are now mature artists, all in their early to mid 40's. Would we really want to hear them continue doing music like 'Party on Your Pussy' or 'Catholic School Girls Rule', like they made in the 80's? I sure wouldn't. I think they would be a laughing stock if they kept making music like that. RHCPs have been making melodic pop-rock since BloodSugarSexMagic. That's the sort of band they've matured into, and I think they're still a great band.
I've got to admit, it's getting better.

I second this notion.......just don't like the vocals at all, sorry. If we all liked the same music, it would be a very boring world.

  • I hate them, at least anything they've done the last decade or so. I can't really put my finger on why. I just find them annoying. Everyone else i know seems to think they are great and I just don't get it. Oh well, there's no band in the world that everybody can agree to like.

One of the best bands ever! There is some history with PJ as opening for them in the early 90's, The chili's opening for PJ in Seattle (money going to charity) and the Tibet Freedom Concert (98) when the Chili Peppers got bumped due to weather and PJ said we won't play unless you give the chili's some of our stage time. Got to love the respect for each other :)

I just seen a post of a video from Eddie and the Bad Radio days, I see a huge Red Hot Chili Pepepers vibe. I think its funny there is not love for these boys.

  • i don't think they sold out...

i think californication was a rebirth record
i think by the way just flat out sucked. they were trying to make another californication and failed misserably.
i think the new album is a step back into the good old days.

i don't hate the chili peppers, i hate a lot of the shitty songs they have made in the last 7 years.
  • As much as I have upmost respect and dignity for 'em, they are a totally corporate, commercialised band these dats. They play short shows and rarely change their set, NEVER play any of the pre-Fruciante/Smith stuff, among which are some hot shit, which I suppose the new fans (14 year old hoodie wearing moshers... uuurgh) wouldn't know or enjoy, as well as not being commercial or radio-friendly. Now I've seen them live a few times and although they're good, it doesn't seem like they are into it. I keep telling myself they are great, but what actually are the reasons I like them??? They are not the band they used to be. The past couple of albums have been trying to repeat BSSM.... and that was by no means compelling.

Sorry, just had to be honest.

Though I dont really ahre your opinion on the band I do agree their set lists need a shake up. Would love to hear stuff like Suck My Kiss, Apache Rose Peacock, Naked in the Rain etc.

Uh how is John Frusciante a dick? I think hes a cool guitarist, a funny, down to earth guy, and a good songwriter as well

he is an amazing guitar player, but he is nowhere near down to earth. the guy is a fucking alien pre and post heroin.
