"I'm 31 now and I don't think that bands should keep going past 33," he said. "So, we're trying to pack in as much as possible. Up until the end of next year, we'll just go for it in every sense."
That's got to be one of the dumbest quotes I've ever read. It makes ZERO sense.
"I'm 31 now and I don't think that bands should keep going past 33"
What kind of logic is that? Did he arbitrarily pick 33 or was there some science used to produce the magic age at which bands should quit?
I was just thinking the exact same thing. What an idiotic thing to say. This guy is really becoming quite the douchebag.
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."
imagine how much personal investment goes into making his music that he can walk away from it so nonchalantly... "past 33"?!? kindof a random number... i fuckin hate passive aggressive behavior and this just wreaks of a "friendly" way of saying fuck off to his bandmates so he can do his own thing... he doesnt exactly need a band to do his syrupy sweet falsetto piano shit anyway
anyway... this is a moment of celebration... lets not question his intentions
I hate to hear that as I like them, but is he really that far off on his assumption?
Just for the hell of it, can we name at least 25 bands that are still relevant and making quality music after hitting 30?

He's said that after each of the last two albums and tours. Towards the end of the X and Y tour, he said they were splitting up. Technically, they did split up for a year or so, then regrouped. The same thing will happen this time.
This coming from the guy who basically begged Noel Gallagher last week to open for them next year...his band is crap now and he knows it...dont let the musical door hit you in the ass Chris
A band is only as old as the members make it. Music doesn't have an expiry date so he should shut up and grow a pair.
Honestly, the man is so self-depricating it's cringe worthy. "We've not as shit as we used to be" fuck off Martin, you want to be Bono. The false modesty thing is wearing thin.
It was only a matter of time before that money hungry chump Chirs Martin decided to cut the strings on his dead-weight bandmates and go solo.
Whatever...
Welcome to the middle of the road...
It's a road of cheese paved by the likes of Kenny Loggins, Phil Collins, and Billy Joel.
The CW Network and it's empty headed zombies are sure to welcome the the pork of teary eyed piano balladry.
They'll eat that shit right up.
And once they're done with Chris Martin, they'll purge his ass for the next chump in line; ready and steady with a sappy tale to make the teenies weep.
He'll be dried up bubblegum on the sidewalks of music history before you know it.
Wow..a lot of hatred toward Chris Martin here. I'm willing to bet he was responding to a journalists questions with tongue in cheek.
This is why it was a good thing Pearl Jam pulled away from the spotlight. If Coldplay were smart they would've done the same thing after "rush of blood to the head".
After a couple of hugely successfull first albums, the weight of expectation is massive. Its a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" type scenario. Pearl Jam was lucky enough to pull away and actually show tremendous growth artistically after Vs. Coldplay tried to fully embrace the spotlight and have fallen way short of expectations with a couple of mediocre albums.

Speaking of which, I think by the age of 28 I need to start eating healthier, so I am gonna go eat Rotel dip until my pants feel tight.

I'm pretty sure he said the same crap after they made A Rush of Blood to the Head. He likes to hear himself talk, like Bono. But Bono is interesting.
