The Floyd was my first big band, the first band that truly opened me up to the possibilities of music. From 1987 until around '90 I devoured their catalog, even the obscure 70s movie soundtracks. There was a period where I listened to at least a good chunk of Dark Side or WYWH (or both) nearly every day.
Think I need to listen to some this afternoon. This is a bummer.

Just last night I was reading about how Gilmour had finally nixed rumors of a 2009 tour with everyone involved. Now that'll never happen. Pink Floyd's website states that it was a short illness.
I was listening to this hard rock cover of "Fearless" last night by this indie California band called Dig. That's what I imagine Rick Wright was up until the end: completely fearless. We all know recorded music lives on. Richard Wright's music and the music of Pink Floyd will never be forgotten.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.
I was very fortunate to see Floyd at Live 8 here in London back in 2005. I knew it was a very special moment to be part of when they took the staged and I'll always remember that incredible four song set. It's a shame that can never happen again. RIP Richard.
I watched Live at Pompeii just a few weeks ago and thought to myself how great a reunion could be (the memories of their Live 8 appearance are still vivid) and now this. RIP Richard Wright, thanks for all the greatness.
"We get these pills to swallow... how they stick in your throat... Tastes like gold..."
When I saw Floyd at MSG in 1977, Their final encore was Us And Them. When they got to the first bridge, you know "Haven't you heard, its a battle of words", etc. I just began to cry shear tears of joy. That had never happened to me before, ( I was 18), and rarely since. That tune was always a Rick Wright song to me. I will never forget and always cherish that moment.
Remember, cherish the times we have now, while we can still see Pearl Jam live every couple of years or so.
Just caught a bit of the Classic Albums "Dark Side of the Moon".....pure genius...we are reduced without him here. R.I.P.
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.
