it's always all about radiohead, soundgarden, metallica, stp, aic and chris cornell?

seriously, people. find something new... i've been coming to these boards since 2003 and it's always been the same thing...

in that sense... can anybody give me any recommendations for good modern rock that's out there today?

please, no my morning jacket... or kings of leon... something new and fresh.

interpol's already old. bloc party is already fading. and probably not liked by many of you.

anyways... i'll leave it up to your judgement... i'm not gonna rant again... i promise. :)

never heard of them being mentioned on here. a great band to see live... king khan is a freakin cool dude.

the problem with mentioning obscure bands is that there wont be much of a discussion cause tis quite possible only a hand full of people know what youre going on about if youre lucky.
i could start threads on the drones, therapy?, the mess hall, heavy trash and jesse bernstein but i could well find im talking to myself. so we talk about the 'big' bands. :)

    This beautiful, poetic album.

well, "big" bands "schmig" bands... if you ask me. in that case let's talk about U2

but think about the people who just might be fortunate of hearing about that great band you heard playing last weekend at the show... i think it's fair. and if nobody replies well... hey write or talk about another till someone catches on. no one's keeping track of how many succesful threads you'll be writing anyhow.

btw, i've taken note on those bands you mentioned.

I hear what you're saying but someome started this thread on Michael Franti and his band SPEARHEAD. I posted on there a couple days ago you can check him out for yourself.

  • If you want some semi-fuzz rock, Silversun Pickups are amazing. Gruvis Malt is the most obscure band ever. And Dredg is quite a find.
If I could, think I would give in.

..but exactly like what music should sound like.

  • Fuck new and fresh. Try some Tim Rose: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHm_8EZ1rJE
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.
  • here's a good band some of you radiohead fans might dig.

  • Deadnothingbetter... I agree with you. It always the same shit on these boards. If you attempt to recommend something all people want to do is bash you. If you want something new, a group that challenges themselves on every album, I would suggest Coheed and Cambria. Musically I feel they are the most talented band in the world right now. Yeah, I know thats a strong statement. This band can play it all though, their songs range from 8 minutes to 3 minutes. The lead singer Claudio Sanchez can absolutely shred, and they have been known to jam out for 10 minutes. Anyway, I saw them live twice and I have never seen any band bring this much energy in my life. Here are 3 songs by them off youtube. Just watch the energy and emotion this band brings:

    In Keeping Secrets - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxowWo_XV_c

    Delirium Trigger - rocks hard

I'd recommend Drive-By Truckers, but they do get a lot mentions here too.

Grand Ole Party is a good bluesy band with a female vocalist, similar to the Heartless Bastards. Great track in Look Out Young Son.

    http://www.myspace.com/grandoleparty

Earthless is more 20 minutes of instrumental heavy metal riffs, with a few vocals thrown in:

Black Heart Procession is more introspective, late night music. Made for lots of candles.

"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

king khan is my happy music :D hooray for someone else hearing about them too!!

i've made threads about plenty of bands...and they all end up ignored, so i just gave up!

    my random suggestions...
    throw me the statue
    the dodos
    yeasayer
    monotonix
yes...i do feel like a human. i do not feel like a tree.
  • You should definitely give Fugazi a listen. Though not exactly a "new" band, I can never get tired of their music. and they're possibly the best live band ever..

I'm listening to Delta Spirit for the first time right now. Figured I'd see what they're all about since I'm seeing them open for Dr. Dog soon.

    I love this album.
  • Give Exit Calm a go, they're as yet unsigned but have a strong buzz around them and the music is quality, so it's only a matter of time really.
