there appears to be a little mud slinging and finger pointing between the local and state officials with the FEMA people down here. One of the hubs for the support teams is about 2 miles from my parents house, and they were asking for anyone with extra water and non perishable foods to drop them off for the police and troops that were here to support the efforts. Apparently they had a plan to get the troops here and deploy them, but no plan to feed them. Someone brought them deer tamales and beer. They were very excited. I was waiting for shipley's to donate donuts. Cops everywhere would rejoice.
Also, for the jackass that insinuated that there are no PJ fans here....Go fuck yourself.
What ain't a country I ever heard of. Do they speak English in what?

He was Canadian. And I'm betting he's never even been to Houston unless he changed planes there once or twice.

This Houstonian got through it pretty well. Just some window screens torn up, otherwise no damage. Going into day four without power, and no idea how long it will be. Very fortunate in that I still have a place to live, a job to go to, and enough access to things like food and gas that I'll be OK. Others have it far worse.
the storm missed us, but we had to go to houston for an appt yesterday, and it looked pretty crazy. very luckily, we had a front come through, so all those without power are not dealing with our usual 99 degree septembers. the gas stations were really crazy, some stations we saw (small ones) had 40-50 people waiting for gas at the pump, causing traffic jams. the stores that are open are out of food and water.
i am personally VERY frustrated with all those who did not prepare for the storm. I understand that some people couldnt leave their homes, but they had plenty of warning! Their stubborness is going to cause hundreds of thousands in needless rescues. it isnt like the hurricane was a surprise, but some south texans get really stubborn about "riding it out", then complain when they arent rescued or fed fast enough. The storm hit Friday at midnight. Grocery stores were open every day before that. If they didnt evacuate or prepare, that is their problem.
i knelt and emptied the mouth of every PUG around...
Today is my first day back at work. I still don't have Internet at home. Anyway, I didn't have it too bad. I didn't have power for three days and a few trees fell in our yard. It just left a huge mess so we've been chopping wood and raking leaves. Luckily we are ok, others however not so much. The day after the storm we drove around my neighborhood just to see how everyone else did and oh the horror! Trees smashed in to homes, cars, businesses and flooding. We went around with our chainsaw helping people with trees in the streets and stuff. Folks near the coast have it worse. Neighborhoods completely destroyed. I heard an interview on the radio with a rep from Star of Hope, a local homeless organization, and they said they didn't know what to do because even before the storm they were turning away homeless people they couldn't help, now there's thousands more they won't be able to help.

I live in the Houston suburbs. We left before the storm and just got back today because we only got power back today. I lost a few shingles but otherwise, things are ok. There are still lots Houstonions without power. Galveston and other coastal communities have a long recovery road ahead.
I was thinking since PJ hasn't been to Texas in a while, how about they do a Hurricane Ike benefit concert in Houston for the people of Southeast Texas? They do their share of benefit concerts, why not one for the South?

Wrong. It was a decent enough place. Pretty friendly for the most part. I would never go out of my way to go there but there are worse places to go for work.

GREAT IDEA!
But I think we should call it "the southwest" or for "Houston" or something else - and it's a brilliant idea! You may remember the huge thread from the folks in the "south" asking PJ to play there which PJ did. So....why don't you start a thread ie what you said above. Can't hurt. And a lot of those people need help BIG TIME. I'll post there = but I'm going to bed just now. So start it on Wednesday and we'll all join in!
Glad to hear that you did okay through it all.

Glad for you too Brain of E. You'll post a thread for a PJ concert in Houston eh?

LOL, yea if a Hurricane is what it takes for PJ to come back to Houston, then I wouldn't mind going through this shit every year. Just kidding, acts of god suck.
