    Sex Pistols.

My sister is really into punk. I'll go ask her later, haha.

For now I can tell you these ones: Antiflag, Circle Jerks, Toy Dolls, Replacements, Sham 69, Generation X, Dead Boys, Stiff Little Fingers.

I know there are others but I don't remember the names. I'll find out.

  • tons of great ones..

    but the best..

    has to be...

    The Misfits.

    No question for me.

Can't go wrong with the Sex Pistols, Ramones, Clash... any of the old standards. They're like punk's Who, Floyd, and Zeppelin.

Misfits are still the grail though. Hail Danzig.

Independents they are from SC and promoted by Joey Ramone. He said on the Alan Handleman(Sp?) show that they were a great punk band Of all the bands that he cmes in contact with this was the one that he chose. He may have had something to do with producing their record...not sure.

    http://www.theindependents.net/ Quote below

"Formerly managed and produced by the late, great JOEY RAMONE, THE INDEPENDENTS have performed almost non-stop, touring with bands such as THE RAMONES, MISFITS, VOODOO GLOW SKULLS, CHEAP TRICK and THE QUEERS; just to name a few. THE INDEPENDENTS have six releases under their belt and are currently working on a new full length scheduled to be released early 2005."

Patti Smith and Television can never be left out of a thread like this. You should listen to Horses, by Patti Smith, and Marquee Moon by Television.

Husker Du - Zen Arcade. It is a semi-concept album about youthful rites of passage. It rules. It will keep you busy for a little while.

Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime. You have never heard anything like this.

    1984 was a good year.
  • I listened to punk myself a couple years , now i'm more into rock/grunge and stuff.
But one of my favorite punk bands was anti-flag.
This is an underground punk-band , with very politic songs.
    Check them out.

stay away from the Sex Pistols. They were the Backstreet Boys for 70's punk. Bunch of fucking losers

For anyone here that likes the Clash, check out Joe Strummers solo stuff if you havent already. Its quite good

Anti-Flag is neither underground, nor good punk.

I saw them open for Bad Religion. It was 50% music, 50% "everyone raise your finger in the air and point it towards the south for George Bush". I'm all for hating the president and all, but c'mon, what is "lets all give G.W. a big middle finger!" saying or accomplishing?

  • It's already been said, but it can't be said enough... :D

    The Clash
    The Ramones
    Dropkick Murphys
    Dead Kennedys
Just put a bend in the road, I'm growing tired of straight lines...
  • THE QUEERS!!!!!!!!! Just go out and buy "Beyond the Valley" and be prepared to want and go buy the rest of the queers albums. "Live at west hollywood" is one the best live albums I have ever heard.

If you listen to Rancid, I assume you listen to The Transplants, but if you don't listen to them, pick up "Haunted Cities"... the transplants feature Tim Armstrong *Rancid* and Travis Barker *Blink 182*. Also, check out the last Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards album "Viking". Phenominal Album.

I'm also a big fan of Old AFI stuff (Art of Drowning, Black Sails, Very Proud of Ya, etc.). Don't bother with the last 2 albums they made... they are a different band now.

Also, Flogging Molly, Blood or Whiskey, and Dropkick Murphys... for the Irish punk in me.

I dunno if anyone said Social Distortion yet... but if not, get their live disc "Live at the Roxy"... it's pretty much a greatest hits style disc.

And props to whoever put the Independents. My band has played with them before. Rad guys.
Shameless plug for my band (Scars and Stripes):
