    Well yeah!

I don't think there's anything wrong with 'try before you buy' - I often download albums, and if I like them I do the right thing and buy the cd.

    me neither.
way back.........in the days of cd stores (lol) they'd let you listen to it. i miss those days. now it's like 20sec of something. you can't tell by 20 meazly secs.

You seriously can't. I've listened to 30 second samples for albums and hated it, then eventually bought the album and loved it. Or vice versa. It's messed up.

I remember listening to Everclear's Sparkle and Fade for about a month every day after school in my local record store before I bought it - good times!

sorry to be the killjoy, but after one full listen i'm going to have to give this a solid "meh"

i'm pretty sure it will grow on me after a couple more listens, but right now i'm not overly impressed.

ha! that's cute. no offense if you hate that word.

weird i saw KOL w/pj didn't buy their cd. saw them on SNL and was SOLD. i'm buying only by the night right now!

    thanks again.

  • lol, like I said, good times! Oh to be 14 again!

I still find it weird trying to get my head round the fact that KOL aren't big in America - here in the UK they are HUGE! Sex On Fire is number one in the charts, the album is a sure fire number one too, and they sold out the 02 arena in London quicker than Led Zeppelin did at their reunion show!

Ah it'll come - I don't think it's as immediate as the last couple of records, but after a few listens different bits started to really stick out. I put it on round at a mate's house over the weekend - late at night drinking beers, everyone really got into it - it has a very definitive vibe, which when the mood is right, is pretty damn cool.

I had no clue this album came out today. I went into a local music store and saw the cd sitting there. I just purchased it, and can't wait to get home to listen to it.

Anyone else pick this up today? If so what's the cd like?

I only heard a few songs and never got a chance to download the leaked cd, so I have no clue what the whole album sounds like.

Let's hear your reviews - good or bad...

    +1

I am a long time big KOL fan, but I dont think I will listen to this album again.
Im going to put on Youth & Young Manhood and pretend this album never happened.
Take me for a ride before we leave...
  • i like this one more than the last one.

    thumbs up to KOL.
  • it might be too early to really say this but i think they get better with every album. i can at least say this one and the last two have been pretty amazing. i love caleb's vocals on this record.

for some reason youth and young manhood doesn't really do it for me.

All four albums are always on heavy rotation at my house....Them, PJ, Raconteurs,Black Keys, Cold War Kids, MMJ, and nice doses of Young and Bowie!!!:)
    Conversations getting dull
There's a constant ringing in my ears
Sense of humor's void and numb
    And I'm bored to tears.......
  • I heard the first 5 songs in Dave's car last night... absolutely awesome... so far.

I LOVE Closer and Sex on Fire.
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
  • I really like Revelry and Crawl. The whole album is good.

  • Solid cd, very enjoyable, a bit short. For some reason I can't help but compare KOL to My Morning Jacket, and to be honest that comparison never comes out in KOL's favor. Probably not a fair comparison, and I'm not sure why I automatically link the two in my head. In this cd in particular I enjoy the vocals, but compared to MMJ, the music is flat. Again, not a logical comparison, and I have no clue why I always seem to make it, but overall, a solid cd

Must be the southern rock aspect of it. I agree though MMJ are a very special band, and are much more original and heartfelt than Kings of Leon. Kings of Leon are good at what they do, which is good party music.
  • how fantastic is Cold Desert? one of my favorite songs ever.

    Closer is pretty great too.

not to highjack this thread, but... i'm a huge fan of MMJ, but judging from their last albums, i think i'm swinging back in favor of KoL. KoL is definitely simpler (nobody has the crazy variety MMJ has), but i think KoL's music is more heartfelt. after letting the hype die down, Evil Urges wasn't that original to me. it pretty much straight ripped off bad 70s music and Prince. i was kinda dissapointed that it wasnt something more unique. i almost get the feeling that MMJ just likes to play around. I'll wait a bit longer before i start calling them the American Radiohead. :)

SUCH a good song. There's definitely catchier songs on the album, but I think Cold Desert is a song that I'll come back to years down the road. Really, really digging it.

Did you go to any of the shows this tour for MMJ? Fucking amazing - the new songs sound great live. And "Librarian" is a well thought out, written song.
  • Even with only a few days on rotation I have to say that Cold Desert is the best song I have heard all year - seriously that song is the shit.

If you haven't heard the back story to that song then check out this home movie:
