Yeah, for real... for me, it's not really a festival unless you're camping out, completely tired, hot, hate drinking water, all of these negative things, but you go there for the music, and I think through all of these negative events, you look for the positive, and the positive would be music/just awesome people all around... so you're just overtaken by music and the atmosphere, which makes it completely better.

Granted I have not been to Chicago, let alone, Lollapalooza. It looks like a stellar list, but I've already seen Radiohead, however, I'd definitely love to see NIN, but other than that... I really really want to see MMJ and Siggy Rós, so yeah. But I'm not sure if I'd experience the same thing that I experience at Bonnaroo. It's kind of euphoric at times, ionno.

Lollapalooza is pretty amazing. You should try to make it out there. The atmosphere different than other festivals. Instead of a farm or the middle of no where...you are right in the middle of beautiful downtown Chicago with the skyline right behind you.

Last year was amazing with Pearl Jam. My favorite moment was during PJ's set. The Bears' pre-season opening scrimmage was at Soldier Field and after the game they set off Fireworks. So during Even Flow we got fire works over Lake Michigan as the back drop. Probably one of the most amazing and life affirming things I have ever seen. Truly an incredible sight.

That does sound awesome, and we really wanted to go, just we already have 'Roo tickets, so that + expenses for that... plus, we're going to two other concerts over the summer, have to work... just, a lot of money... really wish I was on the ball for those super early bird tix they were selling. Maybe next year.
If I could, think I would give in.

    magnificient lineup

Apart from the obvious 3 I recommend Gogol Bordello, The Kills, The Raconteurs, The Black Keys...this seems so promising...isn't it the festival that was cancelled some years ago because of lack of attention???

Nice lineup. I saw Rage and Wilco at Voodoo last fall, but would still love to witness a Radiohead show.

Cheers and congrats to all who are going. Looks like a great weekend!

now lets pray they restructure the whole event so theres only 1 headliner each night! i dont wanna have to choose between rage and NIN! (tho it would be NIN simply because i have seen rage and not them)... out of radiohead, NIN, rage, kanye, wilco, raconteurs the only one i would be willing to miss is kanye... all such amazing live acts! the lineup is definitely better than roo, to whoever was trying to make that argument... and for those of us not into excessive drugs use the environment is alot more fun and picturesque

I would guess the headliners will conflict like this:

    Friday - NIN vs Raconteurs

    Saturday - RATM vs Wilco

Sunday - Radiohead vs Kanye West

Radiohead is listed first, so they will close the festival. NIN would have to be Friday because they're playing another date on Saturday. So RATM has to be Saturday.

No. Actually, Radiohead is playing Lolla on Friday.

that sucks, really does. I hope they don't fuck with me and put the Black Keys on Sunday. I need to make it back to Cleveland for Radiohead. Twice in 4 days isn't too bad

ah neato...then Nails will close, because I believe they have another show on Saturday.

yah this leads me to believe like i was saying that there will be only one main headliner each night... theres no way they would give radiohead a shortened friday night set, especially with it being their only chicago date... and kanye, wilco, and the raconteurs arent big enough to compete with radiohead, rage, or NIN (maybe thats just my opinion)... itll look this i think

FRI- Radiohead (Wilco just before them on the same stage)

    SAT- Rage (after Kanye)

    SUN- NIN (after Raconteurs)

atleast thats how id like for it to go... seems fair IMO... doubt an ego like kanye's would do anything but a headlining spot tho... we will have to wait and see

Here are the bands that are confirmed for a particular day...

Friday, August 1st (please keep in mind that most bands will report Friday until they're officially scheduled)

    Radiohead (http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/48769-radiohead-reveal-second-leg-of-north-american-tour)
    The Postelles ( http://www.myspace.com/thepostelles )
    Mates of state (http://www.myspace.com/matesofstate)
    The Black Keys (http://theblackkeys.com/2008/04/07/lollapalooza-chicago-il-2)
    Bang Camaro http://www.myspace.com/bangcamaro
    Silvia Talvik http://www.myspace.com/sofiatalvik
    Grizzly Bear http://www.grizzly-bear.net/newslive.php
    MGMT (http://www.myspace.com/mgmt)
    Black Kids (http://www.myspace.com/blackkidsrock)
    The Raconteurs (http://www.theraconteurs.com/site.html )

    Saturday, August 2nd

    Battles ( http://www.myspace.com/battlestheband )
    Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings http://www.daptonerecords.com/shows-sjdk.html
    Dierks Bentley http://www.dierks.com/site.php?content=tour

    Sunday, August 3rd

    Nine Inch Nails ( http://www.nin.com/tour/ )

So...looks like the Raconteurs maybe opening for Radiohead.

I'd guess Kanye and Rage on Saturday and Wilco and on Sunday. Pray to god none of these bands overlap.

I really don't think you can book those top 3 acts and not give them the solo slot each night.

If they do it the way you describe I will be VERY happy!

As to Roo vs. Lolla, there's no comparison. Rage, NIN, Radiohead vs. Metallica, Jack Johnson, and yes Pearl Jam. I've seen MMJ multiple times, and Robert Plant solo isn't the same. I also like the fact that I can go home each night instead of camping amongst drugged out hippies!

Thanks for the info! Last year I was lucky that the only real conflict (which was a BIG one) was between MMJ and Modest Mouse. I got to see Modest Mouse later in the fall anyway so no big deal there.

I am really hoping that they don't pit Wilco or the Raconteurs against the big three. That would be a collosal mistake!

was way better even if you don't incorporate PJ

Explosions in te SKY are AWESOME you must see them if you go. I am gonna buy a single for that day only I think(hope it is the day of (NIN)

saw then 3 days ago, I had there songs in my head from the time I left the show until midday the next day. I seriously woke up with their songs playing in my head. That has never happened for any show.

they play their asses off worth checking out even if you never have heard them.

Lets guess the lineup will go in rows from left to right each day based on how they are listed
