  • I agree, hard to believe that record is 16 years old!

battle of los angeles still sounds as fresh as it did on the day of it's release.

I was listening the other day to the debut thinking about how a Rage album would have sounded if released during the Bush administration. American culture has become more vacuous and the political machine has become more corrupt - I wonder about a Rage album written and recorded in, say, 2003...

I also wonder what Frank Zappa would have contributed during the Bush II years...

  • In a way, Rage sound better now because they were the only band who could really pull off the rap/rock thing. With all those other nu metal attempts around, it's good to see the roots of the genre.

Yeah, RATM's debut is still one of the very best records of the 90's.

its a record of pure genius, and not one weak moment, right up there as a genre defining piece of work.

Actually saw the MTV bullet in the head live video yesterday for the first time in ages, Man they all looked so young....

A new record would be awesome and long overdue if they can be bothered to do one, that was one of the biggest issues of being a Rage fan, I remember how long it took for Zach to lay down the lyrics and vocals for evil empire, every month the album would be out soon , and it finally emerged years later after they started work on it
  • Somehow, music that I really despised 10 years ago, I'm really gettin' into now. One of them being Rage. I think it actually started with AS when I couldn't believe what Morello could do with his guitar. I had never really listened to the words Zach was singing either. I figured he's yelling and screaming, it must be violence. ..Not the case.

I wish and hope they record another album - the world is ripe for it.

I dig a lot of the songs, but the end of "killing in the name" kinda makes me cringe now....just seems so lame and juvenile

opinion is a marvellous thing, personally those two records although brilliant can not hold a candle to that debut. I think thats as good a record as you can ever expect. Not a weak moment, I love it today like I did when i first bought it. If I was asked to recommend a RATM album to anyone the debut always comes first.

A truely awe inspiring, magnificent, full 5 star record...a genius of its time, need I go on?

but sure evil empire is well undervalued, Bulls, people, tire me, year of tha Boomerang etc etc are all awesome tunes

Been listening to 'Battles..' a lot recently. A truely fine album.

I think the quality was pretty consistent over all the albums. But the debut will always stand out for me, just cause it came first (if that makes sense?!!).
There wasn't the same shock value when the others came out.

i agree, not taking anything away from the debut & the impact that it had, but these two hold alot more for me than the self-titled, particularly battle of LA.

I'm actually more into them now, then when they first came out.

  • Evil Empire is a great album; my favourite. They really experimented with that album; Zack's best lyrics too.
