Concert Setlist Annomalies

edited July 2008 in The Porch
At my 8th PJ concert at Mansfield II last night, and it was the THIRD time I've heard WASH open up. So it got me thinking, what sort of odd occurances of chance have happened across my 8 setlists. Here's some of my oddest:

* Heard WASH far more often than Rearviewmirror (3 to 1)

* Heard PORCH more times than Better Man, Daughter or Elderly Woman. In fact I've heard it more than Rearviewmirror, Jeremy, and Black COMBINED. Although at least Mansfield broke my Porch "curse" for a night :).

* In just 8 shows I've gotten: Dirty Frank, Education, Crown of Thorns, Dont Gimme No Lip, Bee Girl, Its OK tag (twice), Hunger Strike and plenty of other rarities. But I've never heard Release and have heard only FIVE TOTAL songs off of No Code (one of which is just Lukin).

Thats some pretty odd stuff! But of course I've had a tremendous blast all 8 times, just amazed at how I get some rarities and miss some relatively more common songs after 8 shows in 8 years!

Whats your concert annomalies?

I went to four shows. I saw Hard To Imagine open three of them. which was odd but pretty cool each time. until I get Interstellar Overdrive/Corduroy as the opener, I'll never really care which song they open with anyway.

I've been to two shows and have only 2 songs left to complete my favorite album ever VITALOGY! One being Nothingman which shouldnt be too hard to get and the other being Tremor Christ.

and I didnt include the songs that they havent ever played and no one is expecting them to play.

9 out of 11 in two shows is great for that record.

    Good post.

I was just thinking about this today.

I saw Big Wave 5 times in a row. I've also seen 22% of the performances of Big Wave, including the first and last times they have played the song.

    Let me think...

I've heard Arc live twice in 9 shows (including Ed solo).

I've heard I Believe in Miracles more than I Am Mine, Hail Hail, Go & Save You.

In "only" 9 shows i've gotten the following:

Bee Girl, Black Diamond, All Along the Watchtower, I'm Open, Rats, Trouble in a set (not pre-set), Driven to Tears, Leatherman, Don't Gimme No Lip and Wash.
    Shows: Montreal 98, Barrie 98, Montreal 00, Montreal 03, Montreal 05, Ottawa 05, Toronto 06, Vancouver Night 1 08 (EV), Vancouver Night 2 08 (EV), MSG1 08, MSG2 08, Montreal Night 2 08 (EV), Toronto Night 1 08 (EV), Toronto 09, Hartford 11 (EV), Ottawa 11, Ottawa 16, Ottawa 22.

It took me 6 shows to get Jeremy finally.

I first saw Wash open last night (again, finally)

I have not seen Light Years since my first show, Saratoga 2000.

I dunno, I'm sure there is more stuff.

15 shows here. I wish theskyiscrape still had the setlist song generator- this would be much easier.

    Anyway...

I've heard Blood three times, but never without the Atomic Dog tag.

I've heard Crown of Thorns 3 times. That's 1/4 of the total.

In 15 shows, I've seen 13 unique openers. Only Release has the distinction of being the multiple-time opener, with 3 times heard. The list of openers I've heard are (in order): Sometimes, Arc, Of the Girl, Release, Betterman, Present Tense, Release, Severed Hand, Last Exit, Interstellar Corduroy, Oceans, Release, World Wide Suicide, Why Go, and Hard To Imagine.

As you can see, I've never heard Long Road as an opener. But I did hear it at San Diego '06. Also, being at Roo this year, we got a Release in the second encore.

Songs I haven't seen since my first show: Sometimes, Faithfull, Pilate, Mankind, All Those Yesterdays, and Leatherman.

13 shows = never had some favourites like nothingman, oceans, sleight of hand, soon forget (in fact any uke song), around the bend or thumbing my way

But I feel lucky. I have listened to Hunger Strike, Rats, Breath, full little wing (I had a sign and they played it), In My Tree,...

These are great. And it goes to show how awesome this band is that you can have these types of anomalies.

We really need someone to recreate that set list generator.

Haha, I feel relatively normal compared to some of you. I've caught almost every song I've wanted to see, and I always get the classics.

    Some of my anomalies:
    - I've seen All Night, I'm Open, All Along the Watchtower (7 shows each) as well as Harvest Moon, Bleed for Me, Bee Girl (8 each), and Don't Gimme No Lip (9 shows). But I have NEVER seen Last Exit, Deep, or Garden (467 combined plays).
    - Low Light has been played 23 times; I've seen it 3 times (on 3 different tours).
    - I've seen quite a few firsts in only 9 shows:
    - 2000: First show after the Roskilde tragedy. Only the second "It's OK" tag ever.
    - 2003: The return of "Why Go" after 8 years.
    - 2004: Live debut of "Sad."
    - 2005: Debut of "Gone."
    - 2006: First (and hopefully last) "Last Kiss" with the convicts.
    - 2008: Eddie plays "Guaranteed" solo at Va Beach. Still the only Into the Wild performance at a PJ show.
    - I've seen 6 Ed pre-sets in 9 shows (66%).
    - I've seen 7 different openers in 9 shows (Long Road 3 times).
    - I've seen "Yellow Ledbetter" close 7 out of 9 shows (RITFW twice).
    00: Va Beach, 03: Bristow, 04: Reading, 05: Atlantic City 2x

Thanks for the thread...now that I am totally non productive....tediously dissecting the PJ shows that I have seen. Now, I could generalize...say, I have never seen Release or black live...that would be easy. But for some f'ing reason it seems urgently important to spend hours figuring percentages and other mathematical data (i.e I have seen 47 songs in 4 shows played less that 70 times). I am beginning to think that I may need intensive therapy...I may be using this tour to escape from my life. In the end it may possibly kill me...as I sit not moving for hours, chain smoking and living vicariously on these boards through those at the shows every night. I should probably get some meds...before I throw myself off a cliff when it is over (ok, its not that bad, but WTF?)

If I knew where it was I would take you there. There's much more than this

    great thread :)

ive also seen 5 different openers from my 6 shows (Inside Job, Go x2, Sometimes, Why Go, Long Road)

and have seen 3 live debuts: Education, The Boys Are Back In Town (only version), Love Reign O'er Me....

Ive seen every single song from Vs

& ive seen more songs off No Code than either Vitalogy, Yield or Binaural???

I have been to 10 Pearl Jam shows and 2 solo shows. I have seen Big Wave played at 50% of my Pearl Jam shows.

10% of my PJ shows have been Temple of the Dog reunions, and 1/2 of my Vedder solo shows have featured Ben Harper.

As a side note, 33% of my shows have been in cities named after saints.

For the four shows I've been to across three tours:

I've had a different opener each time - Long Road, Release, Wash, Oceans.

Saw the live debut of Don't Gimme No Lip

Had two Neil Young covers at the same show - not sure if this has happened before - Ottawa '05 (actually, the songs were almost back to back with Leaving Here in between)

Saw all of the regular full Neil Young covers within the first three shows (Fuckin' Up, RITFW, Harvest Moon) - this doesn't include the Mirror Ball songs or tags like Cinnamon Girl, Old Man, Tonight's the Night, and Hey Hey My My.
