Has anyone caught these guys live. I love their album Saturnalia. I have an opportunity to go see them live in November and wanted to know if it was worth the trip to Philly.

Unfortunately, I had to miss their NY show in March, but I have like 15-20 bootlegs so far and the shows sound great...add to that all the fan reviews have been stellar and I'd say it's worth the trip. Luckily, they're coming back to NY in November and you can bet your ass I'll be there!

I saw that they will be back in NYC in November, I believe at Warsaw in Brooklyn. My friend has an extra ticket to see them at the Theater of the Living Arts in Philly, but it's on a week night and I have work the next day. I may just get tickets to see them in Brooklyn instead.

Back in the day I loved the Afghan Whigs and Mark Lanegan is just plain amazing.

SO worth it!! I'm going to both Philly and NYC this tour. I saw them in Feb and it was phenomenal. I was blown away by Greg, and I could not stand him prior to seeing him live.

Thanks for all the input guy. I'm definitely going to try to get tix for the NYC show and maybe, if I can get the next day off, will go to the Philly show. Does anyone know if they will be working on another album?

The i-Tunes exclusive EP of covers, Adorata, is due very soon and all indications are that The Gutter Twins will not be a one and done project. Keep in mind that Greg and Mark had been collaborating for years on Twilight Singers material and those collabos + Mark's appearances at Twilight live shows morphed into the birth of Gutter Twins.

So what's the word on Adorata? Wasn't it supposed to come out a couple of weeks ago? I have been checking iTunes pretty often and nothing!
  • i saw them at lolla and they are fucking spectacular. go if you can.

Yeah I think the "new moon" was August 1, but that was only about 1.5 weeks after they initially announced it and it's pretty common for things to get pushed when they have much more prep time. I'm hoping it magically appears on iTunes soon, but there hasn't been any updates out of the GT camp. Even Scott Ford has been quiet about it. :(

They did release "Deep Hit of the Morning Sun" just under a week ago on their Myspace, so it's gotta be with us soon.

Can any of us truly be surprised at a Gutter Twins release, of all things, being delayed? :p

Was supposed to see them in Detroit on August 1st but it was cancelled. It doesn't look like they're rescheduling the show either. I was pretty bummed. I hope they come somewhere close so I can catch a show.

Saw them in Manchester in April and i'm thinkin' of getting tickets for their Liverpool show. Definitley worth the trip. Got a pretty decent bootleg of the Mancheter gig too.

    Katowice 2007

  • Saw them in London tonight. Good show marred by a low vocal mix. I was also a bit disappointed not to hear Circle The Fringes or I Was In Love... but those are the breaks. It's just a treat to see Lanegan live. Carina Round, the support, was spectacular. Really good stuff from her.

  • that was a great gig, the sound was a bit sludgy at the front but it always is at shep bush emp. i stayed on the wings, sound was great.

missed the support but will check her out, got there at nine coz tix didnt say 'with special guests'

i thought st james was spellbinding and that bonnie brae was so beautifully done...but it was all great.

the eleven cover was a fitting tribute to natascha schnieder as well.

and it was great to hear the whigs stuff in the set, as well as meth blues. :)

Adorata will be an iTunes exclusive EP of covers (the tracklisting is in the post you responded to). For all things Dulli, you need to be at summerskiss.com..........also, my site has an extensive Twilight Singers section that will be updated very soon to include A LOT more Twilight and Gutter Twins material (http://www.sscollective.net).

You and me both! And the good thing is we only have a week to go instead of some arbitrary moom phase info. The tracklisting looks excellent. Personally, I'm hoping that Lanegan is on lead vox for most, if not all of the songs/covers.

You might be in luck..so far Lanegan has taken lead on the following:
    Belles
    Deep Hit of Morning Sun
    St James Infirmary
    Spanish Doors

Down the Line - Dulli rips this shit apart!

    Not sure about these yet...
    Flow Like a River
    Duchess
    We Have Met Before

Flow Like a River was just played at Warsaw, but I haven't reached that track on the boot yet (will hear it on my commute home today :) )

EDIT: Flow like a River was on the setlist, but I'm not sure that they played it based on the tracklist for the boot. Shit.

You should check out some Afghan Whigs stuff too. My favorite is Congregation.

Also, Where was Deep Hit of Morning Sun played? I hadn't seen it on any of the setlist and I would kill to hear Lanegan singing it live. I love his voice in the studio but live he seems to take it to another level live.

Hey thanks for the breakdown! Yea I was almost certain about Lanegan being the lead on a few of those tracks. To address your question, the hope (and word) is that Lanegan is the lead on Flow Like a River....which would be incredible to hear on an album.

Not that I have anything against Dulli; I think his contributions to Saturnalia where excellent (the whole album is golden). However, my fav songs (and my more preferred singer) are sung by Mr. Lanegan....Seven Stories, All Misery, Who Will Lead Us, Bete Noire....just golden material IMO. And yes Dulli has been doing an awesome job with Down the Line...the band has done the song great justice.

Yeah, you def should check out Afghan Whigs...I prefer 1965 myself, but Congregation is an amzing album, as is Black Love!
(oddly, Shawn Smith is on both Congregation and Black Love, but not 1965...and yet I still love it the most :) )

I'll have to check my boots to see if they've played it live yet...the studio version is incredible, but you're right about Lanegan live!

Everyone needs to know that the Afghan Whigs are from Cincinnati.

Therefore, I totally support Mark Lanegan driving from FL to PA to support this incredible artist. Hopefully he'll be drinking a Hudepohl on stage.
