What festivals are ye looking to go to this year?

The line-ups seem to be pretty generic this year... but seems like they'll be pretty listenable all the same!

Roskilde, and a couple of the norwegian festivals; Slottsfjell and Øya.

    http://www.oyafestivalen.no

Slottsfjell's got my two favorite norwegian bands (Superfamily and Kaizers Orchestra), Øya and roskilde always manage to have a great line-up (Radiohead/ Band of Horses and The National/Sigur Ros so far)+ a lot of bands waiting to be discovered on an early afternoon with a cold Tuborg in my hand :)

Brilliant - I'd love to go to a Festival in Norway! I think Inferno would be more my style though.

Yeah, I've heard Inferno is great if you're into that kind of music... Too bad I'm not that hard-core, since it's located twenty minutes from where I live :D
  • None... all shite and Electric Wizard have just pulled out of Roadburn.
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
  • I think it will just be download for me this year.
    Astoria 20/04/06, Leeds 25/08/06, Prague 22/09/06, Wembley 18/06/07,
    Dusseldorf 21/06/07, Manchester 17/08/09, London 18/08/09, LA 06/10/09, LA 07/10/09.

Ain't gonna be any middle anymore.
  • Thinking about Bonnaroo and Rothbury.

If I had to pick today, it'd be the roo, but still in the deciding phase.

Edit: But def going to Lolla this year no matter what. Also hopefully Voodoo Fest if the line-up is cool.

I have a pretty good feeling that PJ will play Voodoo this year

there's no reason to be optimistic.

    So far:

Download... only good bands: KISS, possibly Offspring but only cuz i've never seen them.
Roadburn... only good bands: Down (seeing them for the countless time in April anyways) and Electric Wizard (oops! pulled out! )
Werchter... only good bands: REM, Chemical Bros
Bloodstock... only good band: Dimmu Borgir
    Glastonbury... only good band: KoL
Shrewsbury folk festival... good bands: Richard Thompson, Oysterband and Bellowhead

Now, if I attended all of those festivals it would cost me a fecking fortune in ticket prices alone let alone spending money, beer money, flights, my passport and time off work... all of which I don't have.

The only one i'm considering is Shrewsbury Folk Fest due to the attendance of Mr Richard Thompson, but that would be it.

I know Reading and Leeds haven't been announced yet but i'm not holding out much hope looking at this lot.

Festival line up's have gone downhill considerably over recent years IMO i'm afraid.

I concur. The main thing thats annoying me is the repetition. Iron Maiden are headlining Graspop for the second year in a row, and they played there a few years ago too. Same with Metallica. Last year I had to sit through Aerosmith and Iron Maiden - two bands that I completely fucking detest - I still went though :p I'll take the good with the bad!

  • Definitely going to Lollapalooza again. May consider All Points West and ACL depending on the lineups.

"Japan is awesome; the fans there knew all the words to all the songs...at least phonetically." - Stone

"I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version." - EV

see, I did that for years and now i'm just sick of it. If I have to put up with another little prick in a Trivium t-shirt bragging about how metal he is to his friends and then turning round and asking me who Phil Anselmo is I think i'm gonna strangle someone, and my god the repetition! How many years in a row can you put on Shitknot, Marilyn Manson and Metallica?!
I just can't cope with this 'lets make the line-up diverse' bullshit at Donnington... yep, you guessed it, my main bitch is with Download festival. I've been to every single one and both Ozzfest's (2001/2002) and now it's just a sell out kiddie fest with extortionate prices. I refuse to go again unless someone absolutely spectacular is there.

    I'm a festival snob :p

    Dimmu Borgir are awful :o

and I like black metal. Too many cheesy keyboards in their music :D

    Whatever happened Trivium actually?!

And I've never been to Download - it was always cheaper for us Irish folk to hit the mainland and go to some other festivals. At least there ye get some really good random bands that ye weren't expecting. One in Austria had Sebastian Bach on at 3 in the afternoon in 35degree heat - made my day! Also what else rocked was Apocalyptica kicking Metallica's ass at their own music, great fun!

    Astoria 20/04/06, Leeds 25/08/06, Prague 22/09/06, Wembley 18/06/07,

Lostprophets put on a better live show than Smashing Pumpkins last year at Reading.

Unfortunately, they're still around. Re-hashing quality Metallica and Pantera riffs and trying to pass them off as their own  Pricks.

Don't bother with Download anymore, 3/4 years ago maybe but not now. It's all just emo bullshit and kiddie 'metal'. Also, the facilities are awful (toilets of 2006... nuff said), it's overpriced and the attitude of the stewards and officials stinks.

I saw Apocolyptica about 4 years ago? can't remember but they were good... I won't comment on Sebastian Bach, we want to stay friends :p

I think both are good at what they do, although the Pumpkins were very disappointing. Lostprophets won't have any problems headlining, they know how to work a crowd.

Who would you consider spectacular and worthy of headlining? Most of the bands I can think of are older bands, and they've all been recycled as headliners anyway. At Least Download are trying to mix it up this year.
