too much hair metal for my tastesprintf("shiver in eternal darkness\n");0

I think this is now really lacking some of the classic 80's music and were 3 pages in.
As mentioned earlier Soundgardens Ultramega OK and Louder Than Love(although I think LTL came out in '90)
Screaming Trees, Buzz Factory, Even If And Especially When, oh man two killer albums Invisible Lantern is a belter also.
Mark Lanegan's, The Winding Sheet came out in 89 not as good as WFTHG but a classic all the same.
I personally am not a fan of The Smiths, but you cant deny they're impact in the 80's.
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mothers Milk and The Uplift Mofo Party Plan with out a doubt the two albums for me that contest BSSM as the Chilis best as well as Freaky Styley, three classic albums.
Mudhoney s/t and Superfuzz Bigmuff.
Green River, Devo, PIL, Neil Young, The Cure, The Melvins, Skin Yard, NoFx, Dead Kennedys, Misfits, Black Flag, Millions of Dead Cops and who the freak could leave Tiffany out.:DCan not be arsed with life no more.0 -
What about Lemonheads-Hate Your Friends? - Best boston Punk
At least you could have had Anthrax - Among the Living !!!!...I thought the world, turns out the word thought me0 -
.....Actually "Lick" would be better than "Hate Your Friends" So I changed my mind...I thought the world, turns out the word thought me0

Rain Dogs - Tom Waits
Frank's Wild Years - Tom Waits
You're Living All Over Me - Dinosaur Jr.
Bug - Dinosaur Jr.
Self Inflicted Aerial Nostalgia - Guided by Voices
Murmur - REM
piss I forgot the Replacements - Let it BE/Tim
Whoever hasn't heard YLAOM by Dinosaur Jr. should really get around to checking that record out. It probably has the greatest guitar sound ever recorded. It's blistering."What’s Orphans? I don’t know. Orphans is a dead end kid driving a coffin with big tires across the Ohio River wearing welding goggles and a wife beater with a lit firecracker in his ear." - Tom Waits0 -

The Replacements - Let it Be
Husker Du - Candy Apple Grey
Bob Mould - Workbook
Dinosaur Jr - You're Living All Over Me
Black Flag - Damaged
Bad Religion - Suffer
Camper Van Beethoven - Key Lime Pie
Ministry - The Land of Rape and Honey
Some really good suggestions there. Thanks transplant. See this is why I posted this thread. I'm looking forward to checking some of these guys out, with the exception of Bad Religion which I don't care for. I've heard some Husker Du and it's not bad so that is one that I will definitely investigate further, as is the Replacements.
BTW I'm working on my 70's list now and a 60's list will follow that one. Just fair warning for everyone!!!rock chalk0 -

Thank you. I was wondering when you see some of these folks mentioning arists derivative of those above. If you fancy yourself sort of alternative, how could "Let It Be" and "Tim" by the Replacements not be on that list? Also, how the hell did the shmaltz ballad ridden Aerosmith make the cut? Bob Mould, awesome, and Candy Apple Grey, mmmmmm. Anybody heard of the Suburbs? A truly unique band."The one's who love us best, are the one's we'll lay to rest. Visit their graves on holidays, at best. The one's who love us least, are the one's we'll die to please..." The Replacements

I don't fancy myself anything other than a lover of many types of music. As for Aerosmith, what can I tell you? Kind of a guilty pleasure for me. You're gonna see them show up a lot on my 70's list. Their older stuff is just good, straightforward blues-based rock n roll. I will give you that they went WAY downhill in the past 10-15 years. Pump is the last CD of theirs that I purchased. While it has its share of garbage, some tracks retain their earlier sound.rock chalk0 -

Dont know if its been mentioned before, but The Smiths released some killer albums, mainly Hatful of Hollow, Queen Is Dead or Meat Is Murder.0
-
Hatful Of Hollow is apparently a greatest hits/B-sides/Peel session release, which I just found out recently.
It slays, thoughprintf("shiver in eternal darkness\n");0 -
Absolutely! But according to wikipedia they released directly after thier debut, so its not so much as a best of, as a collection of b-sides/alternative versions that was made easily available. But yeh, its probably my favourite smiths album regardless.
God this forum is packed...0 -
Was Television in the 1980s? Marquee Moon is a great album, but I think that was released in 1978. Well, look into them anyway. Please don't smoke in smoke free buildings. You aren't cool, you're just an asshole0

REM - Out of Time
U2 - The Unforgettable Fire
The Cure - Kiss me, Kiss me, Kiss me
The Cure - Disintegration
The Cure - Boys don't Cry
New Order - Power, Corruption and Lies
Echo and the Bunnymen - Ocean Rain
These are for me -among others, like REM-Green, U2- Joshua Tree, GN'R-Appetite for Destruction- essential 80's records.
