there are a ton of bands that i've done this to. usually it involves a hit single that annoys me or something along those lines. however, i am more then willing to admit my mistake and sing the praises of said band afterwards.

i will openly admit i wrote phantom planet off after california was on the radio. but i must say their self titled album is fucking outstanding from begining to end. i would highly suggest it.

great songs:

feel free to add a band you have done this to and give some songs.

The first time I listened to the Pixies when I was like 13, they did nothing at all for me. Now I love them and have pretty much everything they have ever released.
The Man has a branch office in each of our brains, his corporate emblem is a white albatross, each local rep has a cover known as the Ego, and their mission in this world is Bad Shit.
  • the strokes..... but now they are one of my favorite bands

White Stripes...I gave them a lukewarm reception and didn't really pay much attenton for years then fell in love with them after really listening to White Blood Cells and Get Behind Me Satan.Elephant and De Stijl are good, just not as good as the other two. They are the most original act around since Beck and I can't believe I dismissed them for so long.I actually started checking them out after I saw Jack White played on Go It Alone.I've been listening to a lot of shows from the last tour and I'm amazed at the energy they have.Next time around I'm definately not going to miss them.I kick myself for missing them when The Shins opened for them at Merriweather.

    Some Favorites:
    Red Rain
    My Doorbell
Forever For Her(Is Over For Me)
    Cannon
    The Nurse
    Do

  • i hated Source Tags and Code by Trail of Dead. couldn't stand the damn thing, then after a few months i gave it another listen and now i think it's one album that every single person who is an avid music fan should own. i think it's that great and now i love almost everything they've done (have to admit i don't like much of Worlds Apart)

For some reason I had this major hate-on for radiohead in '96-97. No idea why. Thankfully I came to my senses.

The Rolling Stones. Almost hated them for a while. I don't really know why, maybe all the fuzz around them kinda turned me off a bit.

    But now I love them!

    Oh, and drive-by truckers too.
But then I actually heard some of their stuff and they aren't that bad..
Goddamn Lonely Love got me hooked, and I've heard a couple other songs too, but the guy in the record store here hadn't even heard of them, so I have to wait until I head for the great, big city of Oslo next month to pick up one of their albums. But I definitly need some stuff of theirs.

  • Death Cab for Cutie. I think I wanted to hate them because a lot of people I knew loved them, but then gave them a listen and really enjoyed it.

  • The Strokes.

I just hated the whole "garage rock saves music" thing...not to mention their image annoyed the shit outta me...but after hearing 'Last Nite' & 'Someday' a few times on the radio, there was no denying they're music was damn catchy. :)

System of a Down. I thought they were 'shouty music'.

Fuck that, listen to classics like Ddevil or Revenga. Awesome.

Radiohead - I had OK Computer for a couple of years and didn't really see the big deal, but I gave it another chance one day after hearing they were recording a new album(turned out to be Kid A) and loved them ever since.

Pixies - I liked "Where is My Mind?" when I heard it on Fight Club, I got some of their other songs and didn't like them. Finally got into them a couple of years later and love them now.

The Flaming Lips - I just never got the big deal about them. Only within the last month have I actually started liking them. "The Soft Bulletin" is a great album

Wilco - I didn't like YHF as much as the hype it was getting. I finally got it last year and I thought it was good, but not great. Got their live set a few months back and I really love it.

Franz Ferdinand/The Postal Service/Bloc Party - Bands I ignored just because of the crazy hype they had. But once I actually listened to their stuff, they are all decent bands. Not my favorites by any means, but good stuff. Arctic Monkeys will probably fall into this category in a few months.

Believe it or not, Pearl Jam! I'm not a big fan of Ten. The further along they go as a band, the more I like them. Crazy huh? Their last 5 albums have been brilliant IMO.

I guess that's fine, lol. I'm quite the opposite with Linkin Park actually. I used to like them before I had a taste in music, now I can't stand them or their music. Discovering Pearl Jam has opened my eyes to really good music.

I did not like Pearl Jam. I remember seeing the video for Jeremy and just thinking, that guy is wierd! Hated the song, however, the song reminded me of some conflicts in my life I would just assume forget. But, I met my S.O. and he is a huge Pearl Jam fan. I took him to his first Pearl Jam concert (and mine too) and I remember thinking, oh I know that song and that one. I guess I just never realized and at the time I was listening to a whole different style of music. Now, I am a huge fan and don't know how I lived with out PJ. What the hell was I thinking!
