I'm hoping for more variation this time round....Avacado was a little 'safe'.....

Thoughts anyone.....?

I have no idea why, but i keep picturing the album cover to have a white background, and the music to be a little on the soft, yet jammy side. maybe a tad like MMJ or something. I REALLY hope this album has alot of soft songs and songs that could be jammed out alot for live performances. Im just expecting it to be quite different and experimental. I also want it to be a very happy album, alot like avocado.

I have my fingers crossed for this....

maybe getting older is mellowing me out but i much prefer experimental/jam song pearl jam (Present Tense, Of The Girl, Slieght of Hand, 1/2 full etc) to rocky pearl jam (Avacado is their safest and most uninteresting record in my opinion)

I love no code and binaural, and I really do hope the next one draws influence from these two. I appreciate wanting to show your roots with a lot of punk-tinged songs, but I wasn't an over-the-top fan of avocado. Cropduster84 said it best, it was one of their more 'safe' albums.

Yeah, my problem with Avacado was that it just wasn't interesting enough.....

Riot Act and Binaural have their haters, but they're musical feasts for the ears, so many different sounds.....

Same with a No Code, a magical record that one, diversity and great lyrics.....

fuck variation. they've been variating for 3 albums now, in the wrong direction. they should go back to playing classic rock inspired rock and roll minus the punk.

I kinda meant variation within the album....Avacado seemed very basic, safe and ultimately quite dull to me.....

the songs work live, but No Code, Binaural and Riot Act are much better listens as albums because they have so much ceativity....

We all know you just want another 'Ten' Mr.Smith :D

maybe the problem was putting the fast songs in the front and the slow ones in the back?

  • When they stop selling out arenas around the world, then maybe they should listen to everybody.

The next album is going to make a lot of people happy, and a lot of people unhappy.

    It'll sound how it'll sound.

In my opinion, Avocado was/is an incredible record/cd. From Parachutes to Comatose, it's a compilation of great songs of great variety. I still think Army Reserve and Marker in the Sand are two of PJs best stuff to date. I absolutely love No Code, and it's probably my favorite PJ record, but Avocado is/was a breath of fresh air. I love it.

Seriously, I'd be down for that. More songs like You Are, but with better lyrics.. I'd like to see a new wave influence like The Fixx, The Alarm, The Cure, maybe some R.E.M.

Avocado was pretty safe. Riot Act had "You Are". Binaural had "Sleight of Hand", songs that weren't typical from the band..

they're going to cover tommy live, then make it their next lp.
  • I heard that Dr. Dre is producing their next album, so it should have some PHAT beats.......
  • Just a prediction, but I'm willing to bet the next record will sound like PJ:

A godlike deposit of beauty in a world of shit.
  • Whatever it sounds like, I will always be able to find that right time when I get into the new album and really relate too it. It always happens! Sometimes sooner than later but I have never been let down by this band yet!

So cheer up it will all be good and for me I can always on some level at some point when that time is right relate to the music you are hearing at the right point in your life or your day.

I say just bring it on and give us more of whatever the band will give us.

I cant wait to slide another album into my rather large studio and bootleg collection from this band.

i hope its nothing like MMJ or Kings of Leon or reverting back to more 70's sound...been there, done that, do something different

i think this next album really tells us where the band is going

They need more rockers... The last real one they had was Brain of J. They almost had it with Comatose but that's a little to punk-rock for me...

i think they need to go with the young at heart approach and put the gain and distortion back into their sound and make some more ROCK anthems!!! that would be nice...i miss the angst filled music that they created in the early 90's!!!

I think Matt Cameron should write all the songs on the next album. He's the only one that really experiments..

I think it will be influenced by Metallica after they play the Roo. I guessing it will be a cross between No Code and Ride the Lightning.
