What has happened ? You would would think that with the great Jimmy Hendrix leading the way , there would be loads of black artists in Rock and Roll. Off hand at the moment I can count only a few.
Oscar Harrison Ocean colour scene drummer.
The singer from Bloc party, drummer from the libertines and Lenny Kravitz.
Now they are mostly outputing that aweful rap and hip hop.I loved the Motown and soul sound but how many of today's black artist are in the small league?
R&B stands for Rhythm and Blues not what is protrayed as today.

Lajon Witherspoon, lead singer of Sevendust. Also the band Living Colour who sang "Cult of Personality" was an all-black band. And don't forget Hootie! Just kidding.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

Living Colour and their guitarist Vernon Reid is a guitar god.

Is it just me or does it seem that every big star has a back up band that is all black?

-Paul McCartney's drummer, Abe Laboriel Jr. is one of the best.

McCartney's drummer is good but what is with that bit of hair at the front of his head.
There isn't any black people in my parts but of those of you who know black people, what is their verdict on rock and roll?

There is some emo type band with a black singer dont know what they're called, Incubus have DJ Kilmore, Test-icicles have a black guitarist and i cant think of any more other than those previously mentioned oh hang on Sepultura's singer he should count for two people the size of him:)

Edit the woman in Lenny's AYGGMW video playing drums is also black

without blacks there would be no Blues,Jazz or Rock N Roll..

But now a-days the black population has taken its frustration out by using shitty rap lyrics, instead of buying an acoustic guitar and sliding a bottleneck across it.

    Its sad really

I believe all or most of God Forbid are black or at least they were when I saw them live

Maybe if you broaden your personal scope of musical interests, you'd see more. Start with Robert Randolph and the Family Band. Listen to the North Mississippi All-Stars. Check out any of the Burnsides. And that's just from one small (rockin') corner of America.

    Anyone rememebr Fishbone?

    Morris Day and the Time?

Prince has a new album out that just got four stars in Rolling Stone.

And who knows how the current crop of excellent jazz musicians will influence rock music in the future? Remember the zydeco sound at the beginning of Blind Melon's "Soup?"

I think if you opened your eyes and ears a little, you'd see.

And don't completely shut out hip-hop, a lot of you have formed opinions based on a broad sweeping notion of where that genre is headed because of what's popular today. Check out Jurrassic 5, Talib Kweli and work your way into the underground stuff. There's a lot of conscience hip-hop out there that still speaks for the plight of the poor and disadvantaged, as well as hip-hop artists who aren't afraid to call out the government or authority in an intelligent way. It's not all "bitches, drugs and pimping." Unfortunately, that's the crap that people buy.
I MET SIR MIKE F'N McCREADY!!!!!!!!

R&B like Otis used to make it is dead, too bad, for us. I have wondered about this myself why are there so little black artists in rock.

Didn't faith no more have a black member once?
Rage against the machine's singer was black.
The Dears have a black singer.
The pixies frontman was Black as well. hihi
Skunk anansie had two black members
And well even though it sucks, No doubt

So, he's latino. He is not white, I didn't realise there was a degree of blackness that you need to have to be added.

    Hahaha.
