Soundgarden Reunion?

taken from an interview Chris gave to a dutch magazine:

"During the talk about Soundgarden, Chris awakes from his slumber. When asked if he would ever like to work with his old band, or if that chapter has been closed indefinitely, he moves to the front of his seat.
'I never completely closed that chapter. Someday, perhaps in five years, I would like to record another album. Like we should have done in 1986*. The feeling I had at that time, the emotions and ideas, I still carry around. I cherish them. Besides, all the other bandmembers are still alive. That's a plus, too. Furthermore I remember the types of equipment we used. Like I said, I'm always prone to looking ahead, but as an exception I would like to travel back to that time. It was a great time. So who knows...'"

*when he refers back to 1986, it refers back to what he said earlier in the interview. "Our debut Ultramega OK contained the right songs, but didn't sound great. I think Badmotorfinger is our best record. There I found my voice. Litterally and figurly speaking."

thanks to Kanta from the slaved board for translating.

Now, let´s discuss this, I´m not sure how I think about this yet. That´s something that I would never expected Chris to say.
“Life is life everywhere. Life is in ourselves and not outside us. There will be men beside me, and the important thing is to be a man among men and to remain a man always, whatever the misfortunes, not to despair and not to fall - that is the aim of life, that is its purpose.”

Thanks for that. A Soundgarden reunion/resurrection would be unreal. No more Audioslave, please! I don't give a crap about Rage. They shouldn't wait too long, I'm not sure how much longer Cornell's voice can hold up. I long to hear Kym's guitar screaming with Chris's voice again. I wonder what Matt Cameron would have to say about it...

    yeh

Dave A come back and matt go to SG.

The first album was pretty cool, a really new sound, but the 2nd sucked and the 3rd is getting a tad boring.

so the idea has been done so more solo or Sg!

Soundgarden would be cool, but they can't have Matt back. I won't allow it. At least not full time anyway.

The only problem with this is that he has since lost that voice. Not that I don't still love Chris' voice, and I would guff myself unconscious if they DID reunite...

Plus, he only mentions making an album, no touring, so Matt leaving PJ shouldn't really come up... Crisis averted:D

having soundgarden and rage back would be 1000 times better than fucking audioslave.. BUT although i think rage could still rock their older stuff and release great new stuff.. i doubt the same with soundgarden

I really can't see cornell being able to sing any of the old stuff live.. could you imagine Birth Ritual or Beyond The Wheel HAHHAHA

RATM and Soundgarden beat Audioslave 1000+ times over...

  • Chris can still sing a lot of his old material. He does do soundgarden tunes in audioslave shows. Spoonman, fell on black days, pretty noose, black hole sun, outshine to name a few. So yeah he could do a lot of the songs. Maybe notes exactly the same on the high notes but it would still be good. Yeah beyond the wheel would be a good test of his high note skills. But personally I dont really care if he sings beyond the wheel most of the songs I like chris can still sing because they are not as demanding in the high note department. I would love to hear a new soundgarden album. I really hope it does not take 5 years to happen though. I would love it have it in a few years. Oh and a tour would have to happen. I think it would be cool if they brought back temple of the dog also. I think that would be interesting.

This made up rumor surfaced some time ago and is totally void of truth. An SG reunion would be cool but it's not going to happen.

    Bring that shit on.:D
And like Chris said the best Soundgarden record was BadMotorFinger, no doubt about it, it would have been the greatest record of all time had Birth Ritual been on it as well.;)

I don't see it ever happening. For this one time that Chris allegedly said this in a Dutch mag, he has said 50 times that SG is over.

pearl jam can still play old songs.. and even the new ones dont seem too easy to sing (WWS).. soundgarden on the other hand although im sure thayal could rip all the solos apart cornell simply would NOT be able to sing a good 90 % of their material..

Just listen to Cornell's unplugged stuff and you'll see that he's still got it: http://forums.pearljam.com/showthread.php?t=219465&highlight=cornell+unplugged

  • Chris still sings some soundgarden songs at audioslave shows and does a good job. He has sang black hole sun, spoonman, outshine, and pretty noose. He has also done some temple of the dog song recently. I do think he still has it. He may not be able to sing the high notes exactly the same but I bet it will still sound great. I really think that most of the songs from the last three studio albums excluding Asides chris could still sing. Know songs like beyond the wheel I am not sure of. also a few songs off of badmotorfinger may need to be changed a little to fits chris's voice. Also, if chris starts practicing again I am sure he could pull more of the songs. So yeah chris can do it. Also, chris still can write great songs. I am very impressed with his writting and vocals on the audioslave songs. I think out of exile and revalations vocals are not too far of from the soundgarden style we just need kim, ben, and matt to go with them.

I would love a soundgarden reunion!! Never got to see them back in the day, so this would be a dream come true. I know they will do it, it's just a question of when?

  • They should definitely reunite, as it would bring back one the best bands of the last 20 years and destroy one of the biggest rock atrocities to ever occur, thus killing two birds with the one stone.

Really? I guess your a little on the naive side huh? given peoples record for dissing Audioslave round here.
My vote Soundgarden back, Solo work and Audioslave as side projects, you can never have enough Cornell.;)

Ben released Hater, the 2nd, and was supposed to do some shows to support that. He also played on a few Lanegan albums, and toured as his bassist for a bit. He also recorded with Jordan Cook, and played some shows with him.

    Ben is the man.

Forget that, I want to hear the shit Zach did with DJ Shadow. It was supposedly (from Shadows mouth) the best thing he's ever done. I feel like we all got cheated out of hearing that stuff.
