That half-time show was fantastic... what a talent.

    Umm . . .

He was actually playing, and he is an amazing musical talent. Basically played every instrument on every album he did. Not to mention an amazing guitarist.

Dammit I missed it! The only part of the superbowl I cared about. I didn't get home in time from something. What did he play, and does anyone have a link where I could see it?

yeah. Prince is a phenomenal guitarist, and yeah, that was him playing.

check out the video of him and Tom Petty playing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" from way back when. His guitar solo is fucking amazing.

he was playing and has always been known as an unsung guitar talent. For the past ten years, i've never heard a Foo's song and thunk hey i wish i could hear the Foo Fighters play that again.

Prince is a legend and holds way more artistic merit than The Foo Fighters ever will.

If you couldn't tell he was actually playing then you have no ear for music AT ALL...not even a little. Of course he was playing.

Prince was amazing tonight. I'm not a huge fan by any means but he was tearing it up tonight. My wife, who isn't exactly a big music fan, looked at me and said, "Prince is a really good guitar player, huh?" Enough said. He sounded brilliant.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

Ok, I will now put Prince in the debate as one of the best guitarists of all time.

  • Prince was playing and I can't believe you'd think otherwise.

Remember the 80's? When there was a strain of pop music with integrity and often talent? Prince was at the top of them.

  • Holy fuck there's no way he was playing. He wasn't doing shit with his right, and his left fingers were in the wrong parts of the guitar for him to even play it off that he was tapping and pulling.

Oh and hell yeah he can play.

He was playing, he was singing,...yes, you actually tell these things.

He was one of, if not the best halftime performer ever. Rolling Stones, McCartney, et al, pale and fade in his high heeled footsteps. Only U2's post 9/11 performance was as good.

And Prince can cover any damn song he wants to. Foo Fighters covered "Darling Nikki"; Prince just returned the favor. And the respect.

The man is music. Period. No one can touch him.

  • Dumbass? Really? Was that really necessary?

I do not deny that Prince is an amazing musical talent... a great guitarist and a music legend...

But go back and watch the footage. None of the licks match up with any hand movements...

Despite the name calling and whatnot, I stick by my original analysis. The vocals were live... but the guitar licks didn't match up...

My buddy and I said the same thing. Whether he was playing live or to a track (I think he was live) it was a solid performance and it wasn't an embarrassing parade of singers who have nothing to do with each other.

Exactly what I posted in another thread. He just isn't someone I want to watch or listen to as far as vocals, but I do enjoy his guitar work. :)
