Sorry guys. Not all that good. Some good songs. Kiedis can't sing and for me, the definition of a great rock band is one that shines live, not in the studio with multiple voice overlays and enhancement (kind of reminds me of Britney Spears). Basically they can't hold Pearl Jam's jock.

Not trying to start anything but I believe Pearl Jam is the superior band with the superior musicians, songwriters, and of course, singer.

I saw them once, I believe it was after Californication was released. Kiedis' singing literally hurt my ears, he was so off-pitch the entire time. I can tolerate wrong notes from time to time, of course, but not an entire concert of it. If not for the rest of the band showin' their stuff, I would have left after the first few songs.
  • No need to apologize here, because I agree....never got into them a lot. RHCP just seem like a gimmick to me, but the guitarist is talented. For me I just can't stand anything about Anthony Kedis! He writes songs like just pulling words out of a dictionary and puts them in a sentence. And Flea's porno bassline from 20 years ago is soooooo tired by now!

I think he doesn't really care about the background of the chick... he's more into California

I would have to say that I enjoy me some RHCP, but I'd agree that to hear them live leaves something to be desired.

To *watch* them live is another story. It's quite entertaining. I do believe they are good entertainers. :)

lol I bet they'd be good pro wrestlers!
  • The Chili Peppers are right up there with PJ in terms of Rock Bands that I like. Flea has been creating interesting bass lines ever since the RHCP started in 1983. TO say his lines are boring is crazy! Chad Smith is a tight ass drummer and john frusciante is a tight guitar player.

...and Anthony is an idiot and horrible vocalist!

Fair enough, everyone has an opinion right? If not the world would be pretty boring! lol.....I agree about Smith and Frusciante though. As a band they just seem to gimmicky for me.

Love them or hate them all I have to say is this: After just releasing a double cd of new material (which I have not heard) I think it was a chicken shit decision to play "Give it Away" on SNL a few weeks back! Grow up and be proud of your new music!
    "The leads are weak!"

"The leads are weak? Fuckin' leads are weak? You're Weak! I've Been in this business 15 years"

    "What's your name?"

    "FUCK YOU! THAT"S MY NAME!"

You know if PJ came out and played ALIVE or somehting on SNL, tons of PJ fans would have loved. I would have dug it!

That may be true, but I would still be saying the same thing about them (PJ). Fortunately, PJ rocks and doesn't need to pander to the masses!

Just listening to "SA" now and it's good but I agree with most who say that there isn't really anything that sounds new. And that's what I think makes "PJ" the better record. Still Frusciante is awesome but Kiedis's lyrics...well....pretty weak.

I saw them several years ago and STP opened. In my opinion, STP should have headlined, they were much better by far. RHCP have some decent tunes on record, but they just aren't good live. That is one of the things that is so amazing about PJ they sound great live.

I love RHCP but i'll agree that anthony is the weakest link. not a great voice, not a great lyricist, yet somehow i don't think the peppers would be what they are (or better) if they had a different singer.

flea, john and chad are really virtuosos or masters of their instruments, and i think they keep anthony for a reason. actually that's pretty much what the peppers are about, friendship.

the new album is pretty good, but c'mon, it's almost 2 hours of music, of course you might not wanna sit through it everyday but it's always the same with double albums (even with the grandaddy of double albums, the white album), you can't always expect them to be super cohesive and it's always better to listen just a cd at a time, get to know it and then move on to the next one.

If you think Flea, John and Chad are virtuosic in any way, you need to listen to more music. Flea was actually a trumpet prodigy, and is an amazing bassist but there are quite a few better, imo. John is solid and carries RHCP. Chad is a good drummer but nothin that special.

Ok, who is still active and definitely better than flea? blood sugar sex magik and zeppelin I-IV have the best bass ever recorded by humankind. period.

john is kinda more arguable; i might give you i went a bit too far with him, still he rocks.

chad IS totally a virtuoso, he just ain't a show off and as most drummers his talent is hardly acknowledged.

Maybe its personal taste. Flea is great, but I think he is way overrated.

Les Claypool is leaps and bounds better
I think Jeff Ament is more tasteful.

If Jason Newsted got in a band he is better.

In my years of listening to the Chili Peppers, I have never thought that Chad Smith was a virtuoso drummer. Danny Carey, Neil Peart..... those are virtuosos.

i think it just came to a matter of taste and preferences, but man, there's no way in hell jason newsted is better than flea.

I dont think many people in the world would disagree with you that Chad isnt a virtuoso.... im pretty sure Chad himself wouldnt even say that, lol.

But Newstead is not on the same par as Flea on Bass. Flea is a whole lot better than him.

Flea is one of the best bassists definitely..Jason's great but I agree that Flea is better.
this new one Stadium Arcadium really has Flea rockin' it out with pretty funky grooves

Everyone has their own tastes. It shows immaturity bad mouthing another band on other groups Fan Club message board. I happen to like PJ and RHCP thank you. I have seen RHCP several times and cannot wait to see them in San Diego. They ROCKED at the Weenie Roast in Irvine! I am talking serious "tight." I also can't wait to see PJ at the (both shows) LA Forum. Whether someone likes it or not the RHCP double album will be a financial success and has already received both critical and public acclaim. Get over it.

I have not seen any derogatory posts at the RHCP message board regarding Pearl Jam and would not expect too either. Let's keep it all in perspective.
