Nat King Cole is incredible. I haven't listened to him in a while, but I really need to. I also like Bing Crosby.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

Wow, what a clip. I haven't heard that song in many years. That's a beautiful performance.

To answer your question, I like all kinds of music, especially when it's played as sublimely as this.

I especially love, early era of jazz music, 1920's, 1930's.. Vera Lynn, Annette Hanshaw.. and many others, Peggy Lee, Judy Garland..May be just because they sound to me "naive"..

I love good music of any time and genre and this includes early jazz, ragtime, opera etc.

Some of my favourite recordings from the wax cylinder - 78rpm period :)

:D What's weird about it? None of that music is weird in any way, it's just old. Some of it REALLY old.

I may be mistaken about any of these being recorded on phonograph cylinders though, the Caruso recording is old as fuck but I think he was one of the first people to record on 78s. My listening to Caruso isn't weird at all though, it was some of the first music I ever heard. He was my grandfather's favourite singer and he always used to play his records :)

I'm definitely more a fan of Costello than Presley.

bah humbug. Even Elvis Costello would admit he's crap compared to EP.
I mean Costello is a decent artist for sure, but truly incomparable apart from the obvious....

I wouldn't say that at all, Elvis Presley is more of an icon and probably a better entertainer. Costello is arguably a greater artist, given that he wrote his songs for a start.

I don't dislike Elvis, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying "pfft, Elvis is for fans of pop music, not real music blah blah blah", I just genuinely prefer Costello.

would he now? or are you just projecting?

the obvious being what? that he actually wrote songs whilst presley didnt have the skill? :p:D

the obvious being the name, and I bet he would be embaressed even if he was asked to compare himself with EP.
and who cares about who wrote the buggers, the real skill is getting up there and making them come to life the way Presley could :) Ask Neil Diamond.

I want to point out that I also quite like Costello, before we travel down that route.

Just reminding you that you started it...ok?
I would never compare them either, you was just being a clever arse because of the name thing.
And I have to add, that that song there is rubbish! I'm all for someone giving a different take on a song, but that just sounds like they've slowed it down.
If you want to see a real class act of musicians rework a classic, and by rework I mean...REWORK! the watch this :)

Sam Cooke? He's always been a favorite of mine.

Add me to the loves Elvis Presley list too.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

  • I love old music. Billie Holiday is one of my favorites along with Miles Davis and John Coltrain. I'm only twenty but their music is damn relaxing.

Sam Cooke is my favourite singer of all time.

A Change Is Gonna Come is simply beyond music.

His Live at the Harlem Square Club is the greatest live album ever.

Hehe, clearly you've only heard Coltrane's early stuff :) The further he moved away from Miles, the more impossible it is to describe his music as anything like relaxing.

Compare his 1966 version of that lovely old Hammerstein and Rogers number, My Favourite Things, to his version from the album :p
