Why do people think all Pop music is inferior to other music?

One of my favourite bands is Take That. I'm a 26 year old guy so a lot of people find this a little odd, but I think they're great. I love pop music when its done well, and I think Take That do it very well.
But why do people think pop music, as a genre, is inferior to most other genres?

There are some people that simply don't like pop music period, and that gets translated into "pop music sucks". Other people think pop music is manufactured, and hollow artistically. That also gets translated into "pop music sucks".
I'm somewhere in between. I think MOST pop is manufactured and artistically hollow. But I will listen to Prince or George Michael any day.
i'm sorry, but that's hilarious
but kudos to you, i'm not here to judge.
Brave to try to gamble at times
justin timberlake IS great! those performances on snl last week were awesome, as was his acting in the skits.
And JT is cool.
man, i hope gayness isnt contagious...
Lol
"Hey, if God didn’t want me to wear it so much, he wouldn’t have made them rock so hard."
I agree with you guys about Take That, they have something that's quite haunting about a lot of their melodies.
Meh, I'm not a big fan of Justin Timberlake. I like some of his music but as far as he goes I feel he's overrated.
Pop music is like candy. You eat it and it tastes good but too much of it will rip the holy hell out of your stomache lining.
I don't poo-poo pop anymore. It doesn't resonate with me, but that's because I'm not really hip to pop culture and what it needs to feel good about itself...which is what pop music does.

Is this new take that or old? I hated the old one but the new song (Patience) is pretty good!
I think the problem with pop music is that is is seen as music being made for money's sake, with most of the money going to pop "swengalis" like simon cowell etc who "manufacture" acts for the market, as opposed to artists doing it for themselves. Back in the 80s it was Stock Aitken and Waterman and I think they were the ones who really gave pop music a bad name and its stuck.
One of the reasons I prefer All Saints over Girls Aloud (YUK!) is because the girls in All Saints did it themselves like a band does - they got together themselves, wrote their own songs etc. They didn't have someone telling them what to do, what to wear, what to sing etc to fit a formula, (at least as far as I know they didn't.) That's what I admire anyway.

Pop Music of the bands that I like(don't buy their albums but the songs are catchy).
Sugababes the best female group for a very long time. Prefer their very early songs.
I really liked "All about you" by Mcfly
Most of pop is manufactured music with drummachines and very little originality but some out there isn't half bad
I would rather starve than eat your bread

Some pop tunes aren't too bad, but..most are. Nothing compares to the crap that is called rap.
rap music isn't inferior! But I guess whatever floats. :eyeroll:

Have we lost our way tonight?
Have we lost our hope to sorrow?
Feels like were all alone
Running further from what’s right
And there are no more heroes to follow
So what are we becoming?
Where did we go wrong?

But..I have to say I think you can make some kind of scale..if you must that is..If you set up some criteria like complexity of all the instruments or how unique some riff is or I don't know, you could look at all the instruments separatly what they're playing..and then country sounds cheap in comparison to jazz...but then again..sometimes simple is better or it fits the song more...so..I think we shouldn't measure but look each song from it's own perspective..
Good music is, if it expresses what all of the other "tools" (fine art, language..) cannot...
